Which optic for my AR?

Now I have had my AR for years and have tried different scopes and Optics. I got a really great stainless steel 1/8 16" barrel from a friend and fellow calgunner. I have a ACOG mounted to the rifle but feel it should have something more then the ACOG. I offered to trade in my ACOG to SFWA for one of the scopes below. I would like some input from my fellow calgunners.

Now the friend that gave me the barrel said that 5x mag are not tht different from a 4x. To me he's a scope master so that why I asking for a second opinion.

Since you are looking at low power variables, True 1x performance should be the goal, so 4x or 5x on the top end should not matter. It’s very similar and provides little benefit on the top end, vs the low end.



In addition to the above options... I would also put serious consideration into these.

I have the Vortex PST 1-4x and the SWFA SS HD 1-6x... Both excellent optics for their price class.

If daylight visibility of the illumination is really important to you then you might want to reconsider the Vortex PST. It’s not bright enough to shoot on a bright sunny day, overcast is as good as it gets with that one. 1x performance is very good, nice empty tube effect.

The SWFA is one of my favorite low power variables I have used… stout/durable, bright illumination, FFP so you get a nice dual role reticle, excellent optical clarity. Coming from an ACOG you would be able to appreciate the clarity of this variable.

I showed that 1-6 to a the friend and he was not goig for it. We have another friend who is also a calgunner and he uses that scope. I may pick his brain over it and give it a look again. Thanks and do you have a pic of the scope on your rifle?

Why isn't your buddy going for it? I think its a considerably better / higher end optic than the Leupolds you listed. But that's just my opinion.

Oh I already have it saved on my wish list. I just want to see it on a rifle.
