    High End Scope Newbie Here

    Scope Gurus of Calguns

Okay so now that I have the scope for my rifle

    Question

How the hell do you use it. To be honest, I am looking for actual hands on instruction not a video or something to read. I learn better that way.

If you can recommend a class or someone for a 2 hour lesson (I live in Riverside, CA).

I have been reading all the manuals/posts and watching the videos, I feel more confused than ever.

This is my level of knowledge, from red dots (Eotech/Aimpoint) I know windage and elevation and how to adjust other than that, everything is greek to me. (Should have paid attention in geometry class)

    Help
Boris, who had a goat, and Ivan, who didn't. One day, Ivan came upon a strange-looking lamp; when he rubbed it, a genie appeared. She told him that she could grant him just one wish, but it could be anything he wanted.
Ivan said, "I want Boris' goat to die."

I'd help out if you were local. Probably just to get some hands on time with "Veronica" more than anything else, LOL.

If you haven't already watched it, I'd highly reccommend getting the Magpul: Art of the Precision Rifle DVD. It won't make you an expert, but it will give you a better understanding of how everything (including optics) ties in together to enable long range shooting.

Another good resource for training without blowing a lot of money on Ammo is the Shooter Ready long range shooting sim. The newest version has options for FFP reticle with mil click adjustments that should match up to your Viper PST pretty well.

CAPRC clinic at Angeles Range would be a good start* Having someone local just show you could be a bit more demanding on them than you'd expect. It's not as simple as just setting it up and shooting if you're new to using a precision rifle scope. Hell, you might not have even set it up correctly in the first place. A basic precision rifle class would be a good idea, but even those at the entry level require you to have a properly setup rifle.

You can search for NRA-sanctioned courses in CA here:

CAPRC - go on their forum to find about about clinic dates

*assuming they're still doing that - I moved from away to New Zealand about 3 years ago.

Thanks everyone. To be fair a friend help me mount the scope properly he had the vice, bubble level, and torque wrench. Afterwards we sighted it with a laser about 100 yards, Took it off the mount and put it back (3x) it seems to hold zero. I guess I just got overwhelmed with the amount of information, plus it had these shims that I had no idea what it is for. (after watching the vortex training video now it makes sense)

West End Gun Club has a bolt action match on the schedule for Sunday Oct 20.

Come on out we can help you. You dont need to be a member to go to the match, and you can watch for free- A number of people have the PST 6-24 at that match and we can easily explain how to use it-

Bring a note book... your head will be swimming with info....

Otherwise, I live in Riverside and could help you out.
