For the same money- I say there is NO comparison.
Take a look at the 'manually operated rifles' subforum and read the threads on someone looking for a scope on a budget for long range. The 2 common brands that always are recommended on midrange budget... are vortex PST and Bushnell Elite.
No one there recommends millet. Ever. Many of the people on that subforum compete in precision rifle. I do. I recommend vortex and bushnell like most of those guys. I'd also recommend nikon, and swfa ss for lower budgets still.
And, no one beats vortex warranty. Nobody.Comment

I've owned a Millet TRS-1 for a couple years... optically it was surprisingly good for the price point, but it lacked in some areas and there was a lot of room for improvement and refinement, but for its price point I wasn’t complaining. I can’t speak for the other Millet optics, I’ve never used them.
I agree with Postal, Vortex is pretty hard to beat, even across their entire line of scopes, for their respected price point, each line gives other market options a solid run for their money.
Bushnell Elite scopes are also a favorite amongst many and certain models are often compared as an alternate or even an upgrade to Vortex PST scopes.
Not all SWFA scopes are for budget builds... I only own their HD series SS scopes, and they outclass both my PST scopes in the optics and build quality department. I consider them an upgrade and prefer them over my PST optics.
Their standard SS line still offers a lot of optic for the money. The fixed 10x is often recommended for people on a strict budget but they also have variable scopes in their portfolio worth looking at.ExtremeXComment

TMK neither of those in that mag range/objective can be had for the OP's price point. I do however feel the Viper 6.5-20x50 ($460)in standard or 6-24x 50 HS ($580) are xlnt $500 range scopes. I guess it's a matter if you "need" FFP. Gonna have to pay for that on top of a specific quality. myself, I don't get the rage for FFP with fixed and generally known ranges. But that's why they have different flavors. given $500 i'd rather pay for glass than "features".For the same money- I say there is NO comparison.

Vortex for me. I have a SPARC and a Viper PST 2.5-10x32 FFP, as well as a Solo R/T monocular. All excellent products.

Unless I'm mistaken, you can't get a 6-24x50 Vortex Viper PST for under $500. With that said, you can't trust those who say Vortex.
I have seen the Vortex PST and lower models, but not the Millett. IMHO, the Vortex is worth it in the PST's only, not the HS or lower. Like I said, I haven't looked through or seen a Millett, so I can't compare. But I just want to throw it out there that for what OP's pricepoint is, I highly doubt he is talking about the PST.Comment

That's the same Vortex I almost bought! I like the scope. However, with the Natchezss sale, I bought the Weaver 6-24x50 Classic Extreme Riflescope Illuminated Dual-X Reticle Matte. It will go with my all black Winchester Model 70 Ultimate Shadow in .308!
Tough decisions about scopes! You can spend thousands of $$$...
Good luck!__________________

Well...I like my Vortex. It compares favorably with similar priced and optioned Monarch. My Vortex is a bit brighter than my Monarch, prolly due to the 50mm vs. 44mm objective. Clarity at higher powers goes to the Vortex as well. It also has the 30mm tube allowing for more adjustment.Unless I'm mistaken, you can't get a 6-24x50 Vortex Viper PST for under $500. Strange you only like the PST. I'm of the understanding the glass is the same across the Viper line.Palestine is a fake country

(no one ever told him they have a "Razor" line....
)
For under $500 it isnt the PST.... but Vortex makes good stuff and their warranty is *the best* as well...
As to FFP.... Even at known distances- You can hold elevation and wind at any power. 2nd focal plane you cant.
The matches I shoot, we usually have some stages at multiple distances in a short time frame and they dont allow you to dial elevation- you have to hold. Certainly not a feature "everyone" needs though.Comment

Vortex over Millet any day of the week. However, I'm not fond of their red dots due to the bluish tint of the glass. The tint might be from the coatings they use?Laws against murder and attempted murder should have been the only gun control laws ever needed in America...Comment

PST is Philippines, I believe the other Vipers are China... I'm not expert, but Philippines glass is said to be better than China.Well...I like my Vortex. I've never owned a Millet, but have had the opportunity to shoot with them a few times with mixed results. The farthest I've ever shot was with a Millett LRS scopeon member Diego Ted's 338 Lapua. Glass was good enough to see bullet strike marks on a painted steel plate at 1600 yards. We used the scope all day through several shooters. It never missed a beat, and the tracking was about as good as I could expect from any scope, let alone a sub $500 optic.
From this experience, I reccommended the same scope to a friend of mine who was looking for optics to put on a Remington 700 in 308. He got the Mil/Mil version in ATACS camo. He installed it, and we headed to the range. Neither of us could get the scope to hold zero for more than 4 shots. About every third or fourth shot would end up shifting the zero about 4 or 5 inches in random directions. It would hold that zero for another 3 to 4 shots and then shift again. We checked the tightness on all the ring cap screws, cross bolts and even the base screws. Everything was tight, the scope was just a pile of crap.
The cherry on top of this poop sandwich was when a giant glob of something decided to break loose from inside the scope and imbed itself right in the middle of the reticle. Pretty sure it was excess grease from assembly, but it was enough crud to block about 30% of the center of the sight picture. Dude looked like someone had just ran over his puppy, and then kicked him in the junk. He was able to return the scope to Amazon for another of the same type. No word on how well that one is holding up as he moved out of state about a year ago.
I would (and do) steer clear of Millett based on this experience with one of their higher end scopes.U.S. Navy (Retired) 1994-2015Comment
