    Scope Ring Spacing

I bought a NXS 5.5-22x50 and used a Badger One Piece ring mount for testing with a 20moa Badger base on a bolt rifle.

This mount sits on each side of the turrets but does not give much spacing. I notice many of the AICS rifles have very tight ring spacing also.

Is there any advantage with using separate rings as far as tube support, I could get another 3-4" towards the muzzle using one on the forward end of the scope?

    Thanks

I like to have the rings as far apart as possible, without being right on the edge of the joints where the objective and ocular assemblies join the maintube.

Indeed the mounting of a scope can vary quite a bit depending on scope used, mount used, ring width, and turret location relative to the maintube overall length. Some are offset (like Burris XTR and Leupold Mark 4 16x).

I suppose a one-piece base/rings setup is strongest, but it *will* limit your choices more so than separate components. Is the tradeoff worth it? Only you can decide that.

The Chandler/IBA mount is unitized. They weld fairly typical Redfield type rings to a Redfield type base. Some swear by the Chandler work. Some swear at it, especially when they see the price tag and lead time. A grand for a bedding job? Come on now... Caveat Emptor

    Some don't put a price on tacti-coolness.
