One of the reasons an Aimpoint is so expensive is because their battery life is insane. While in iraq my brightness knob became loose. I didnt have the wrench to fix it and the knob was lost. My first thought was this thing is a piece of junk. i was already having to use brightness lvl of about 7 to keep up in daylight. And i figured when the battery dies I'll get a new knob from the armory. that was at the beginning of August. Mid Feburary (over 5000 hours later) i had turned up the brightness twice with a multitool over the months and i left Iraq without a knob, because i never needed to get that battery. Quality like that comes with a price tag and once i secure the funds i will own one too.

Having toured the EOTech factory in Michigan, and seeing the number of persons involved in the assembly, the quality control and the technology involved, I'm amazed (and pleased) that they sell for as little as they do.
My favorite part was the timeline, with examples and prototypes.

To complicate your choice further, should you find some miracle quality sight under $200 & Made in the USofA; how do you even know it was made by an 'American Citizen?'
This is one of those moments where you will have to choose; Sweden or China.

@$300, you might have a shot at a used EOTech or Aimpoint. My philosophy is that holding zero should be a given on any sight. I have a $50 truglo that survived over 300 shotgun slug rounds to-date and still holds its point of impact. If a bushnell our vortex offering couldn't hold zero for its lifetime id be both shocked and disappointed. I've seen a LOT of reviews on the lower end products that suggest they are decent Rigs at around $100. I just can't believe no American company can provide something of similar value in the $200 range, perhaps even up more to $300. Just seems like such a wide gap between the value sights and the "big boys". Was hoping i had overlooked a brand that closed that gap a bit. Guess that's just an impossibility
The difference in quality is apparent and you'll never be sorry you spent more...just be wary of fakes.
I can tell you from experience, that lower priced, lower quality gear always works great...until it doesn't...which is usually when you accidentally drop it.
