    Leupold VX6

Anyone have one and experience on them? I have a VX3 3.5-10 on my xbolt 270 already. Just got another xbolt in 300wsm. Looking to put a new scope on it and debating between the VX3 or 6. Is it worth the price difference? I'm currently looking at the VX6 2-12-42. The VX3 has been great for me and I would not hesitate to put another one on the 300wsm but looking for a change for the new hunting gun.

The two major differences are the zoom ratio and adjustment range. Optically they are very similar. You get a 6:1 ratio which gives you that wide range, 2-12x. Also, depending on what model 3.5-10x you have, there is a modest inc. in total adjustment range.

Thanks! I'm leaning towards the vx6 after much research.

Have you ever felt overscoped at 3.5X? I haven't in CA. IMO 4x12 is perfect for hunting in the west.

Sometimes I wished it was lower if I was hunting in areas where shots are less than 100yds. It makes it harder to shoot running game. Majority of the places I hunt the shots are longer so the 3.5 was okay. Another reason why I'm leaning towards the VX6 is that I can be at 2x and better field of view for those closer shots.

I've always felt competent that I could put the deer immediately in the scope from 50' on with 4X. I always carried the 3x9 at 4X. Only time I was overscoped was because I forgot to wind it down from 9X after glassing something.

It's just better acquisition with the lower mag and wider field of view. I've never had a problem putting a deer or hog in my scope at 3.5x around 50yds but when it's running the lower mag/fov has the advantage. I just ordered the VX6.
