    Fixed vs variable power

Is there any advantage to a fixed power scope?

In my situation, I will only be shooting at fixed targets at 100 yards.

I find that I leave my variables on the highest power available.

I guess it's a nice feature to have, but necessary? No, not for my uses anyway.

Fixed power will generally be lighter, more durable (fewer moving parts to break), slightly clearer (fewer lenses) and cheaper. One of the few downsides aside from lack of variable magnification, is that it is difficult to find fixed power scopes with a parallax adjustment. To get the most accuracy out of an optic, it should have an adjustable parallax/focus.

Even at a 100, variable is better.

Bench or bipod or prone sling, you can dial up the power as high as you want for accuracy.

Sitting, kneeling, standing, you may want to bring the power down.

For your intended use, fixed would be simple and adequate. If you ever get bored of the 100 yard bench rest (hunting or longer ranges), however, then the variable would be more versatile, especially a FFP.

Thanks for the video. A lot of what he states seems to make sense.

I'm leaning more and more towards a fixed power scope. I need to find out what power I like best at 100yards. I tend to find myself in the 12-15x range.
