How to mount this properly in order not to get a deep mark on the rails?

If done correctly it won't damage the rail. It will take some pressure to close it. I believe the directions say it should be a bit tighter to remove than to close. Contact LT if you need further assistance. They are responsive via e-mail.

Yep, it should have come with instructions on setting the tension.

One of the standard procedures at arfcom is to adjust it so that you start feeling tension at 45 degrees. It takes very little adjustment of the nut to make pretty big differences in tension.

I was told by one of the gun guys to the stars that after you clamp the base on you should tighten the bolts down. You make your own call on that.
