    AR Rear Sight Weight

    Hey all.

I am working on an ultralight weapon and ounces add up to pounds. I have read pretty much all over the Internet that Troy is the way to go for an AR rear sight.

My question is, Can anybody tell me the weight of the Troy rear sight?

Or if anyone has any weights on the rear sight you would recomend that would be great too. (I know plastic is lighter but to be honest I am just not interested in plastic)

    Thanks!!

I know you don't want composite, but Magpul is the lightest I've used (and the least desirable - for me)... GG&G is the heaviest... with Troy being in between...

It's literally grams (or fractions or a gram in some cases) difference between various sights... doubtful that you would know which one was on your rifle if your eyes were closed.

Troy is my preferred rear BUIS... it's low profile, solidly built and accurate. If you are looking for absolute lightest, Troy would be close (or fractions of a gram from anything lighter).

I'd personally get the rear sight that I prefer the most and then shave the grams off elsewhere (lighter barrel, optic, stock, etc).

        ^^ This

Unfortunately, I don't know the exact weight for the Troy sight. I personally like the Magpul Gen II sights. The front sight post could be thinner but they are good sights for the money.

I am trying to be practical and apply the same principle to the whole gun. I was hoping that the Troy was going to be on the middle to lighter side so it falls into a win in all my categories.

Example rails are heavy compared to magpul plastics, but I really want rails... What to do, What to do. First world problems.
