    Which NF to get

Took Don's class yesterday using a nightforce
12.42x56 Was great....love nightforce but, it was a bit much

Want to drop down to either
    5.5.22x50 or 8.32x56

live pretty close to Pala which I believe goes out to 1000 yards

    any recommendations on which one?

    thanks in advance

5.5-22x 50mm like we talked about. Cant get better then that. 8 power is WAY to high on its lowest setting for shooting.

If anybody is interested, I have a used 5.5-22x56 w/NP-R2 reticle that is currently just sitting on a shelf. It has some noticeable ring marks, which you can also feel in the finish, but the optics are flawless and the scope is a great performer. I'm trying to scale down my gear...

PM for pics and details if you like.

I have both and it really depends on the type of shooting that you plan on doing. If the only thing you're going to do with it is shoot 1000yds than a 12-42 is the way to go. I bought my 8-32 only because I already had a 5.5-22 on another rifle. The 5.5-22 is far more versatile in that it can be adjusted for both closer a further tagets than the 8-32. But, either way your getting a great scope.

If you plan on shooting in matches and such where you expect a dynamic environment, wait for the FFP Nightforce to hit the shelves. You could always dial down the 5.5-22 to 11x and cut your holds in half, but this is just something else to have to remember among everything else thats going on. You always have to remember where your power ring is. For shooting known distances where single, stationary targets are .5 MOA or smaller, a SFP scope is preferrable. I like FFP for everything else.

ETA: You may want to take another couple classes or shoot a few matches (if thats what you intend to do) before you decide on an expensive optic. The more you learn and experience may very likely change what you want in a scope.

The Falcon Menace FFP 4-14X44 IS ONLY AROUND $450.00. Buy it try it and if you like the FFP sell it and buy the more expensive NF FFP.

Double check about the 12-42x56 that it has enough elevation adjustment to do what you want it to do, with the round that you're shooting. For .308Win, with a 100yd Zero, you may run out of adjustment for 1000yds or come perilously close to bottoming out.

IMO With a fine reticle (NPR1) the 3-15x50 doesn't seem to give up much if anything to higher power scopes.
