Mil dot vs mrad?

Hello fellow Calgunners,

I'm ready to bite the bullet! (Okay, really hit the checkout button)

Deciding between the mil dot reticle with the .25moa or the Mrad reticle with the .10mrad?

And it's the 10x42 swfa SS (just in case your wondering)

You want the knobs and reticle to match so go with the mrad eticle and 1/10 mrad knobs.

In case you needed further clarification... a mil dot reticle goes by the mrad system... so if you have mrad turret adjustments, when you turn the turret to say, 1 mil... it's the equivalent of using a 1 mil holdover dot on the reticle.

If you have moa turret adjustments... you basically have a mildot reticle that is mrad... and then you are making adjustments in moa... so you have to do math.

Like the others said, get matching systems...

Mrads are easier to calculate on the fly.

Mil dots came from old artillery use. It's short for milliradian. It's a finner unit of measure than degrees. 6283.2 mils = 360 degrees, 1 mil at 1000 yards= 36 inches.

Not when it comes to scopes.

1 MOA at 100yds is 1.047 inches
1 MIL at 100yds is 3.6 inches

One click on a MOA scope is roughly 0.25" at 100 yards.
At the same 100 yards, one click on a MIL scope is 0.36"

Tell me how MIL is finer than MOA again?
