Spend some time over on the California Precision Rifle Club website. It's a group focused on precision rifle shooting. They have very beginner friendly articles on gear selection across price/skill ranges.

This scope allows to be fast at 4x and very accurate at 14x not to mention its FFP

I hope the upcoming 1-6x doesn't have the cheesy Primary Arms logo/lettering on the scope, that's what kept me from buying the 4-14... Clean looks and true day light illumination and I'll take two please.

Lol really the logo kept you from buy it!
I think all our scopes have PA on them.
I guess you ll have to choose between the accuracy and capabilities of the ACSS reticle or the logo lol.

I like my Millett TRS-1 with matching mil turrets, I think I paid about $270 for it a couple years ago: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/458...-reticle-matte

I run it on an SPS Varmint in 308 and find it completely adequate for shooting 1/2 moa groups out to 300 yards, have not really tried it out further than that TBH. Some day I may want to invest in better glass but for a starter scope it's a lot of features for the money (if you don't mind that it's made in China, for some that's a deal breaker). If your max range is really only 200-300 yards I think it will be plenty of scope for you.

If you don't mind spending a little more, check out the Vortex Viper PST lineup. I am thinking about getting one of those with an FFP reticle for my 300 win mag next.

Swfa ss, traditional: mil/ moa, for ease but a little less fine adjustable mil/mil. Clicks are 1/4 moa, versus 1/10th mil, but the math is easier.

I picked up a Vortex Viper 6.5-20x44 with side focus, capped target resettable turrets, and a sunshade for with a 30mm tube for $300 bucks from cameralandny.com. It was by far the best deal I've seen for it. It has the fine crosshair "wide duplex" reticle. It has been great for me, plenty of elevation adjustment for out to 800 yards, and is super clear for the money. Compared to my nikons, redfield, and a handful of other cheap scopes, it is much cleaner and nicer to look through.

I ended up taking a gamble on this. So far, I'm not disappointed! Rings, base and scope and sunshade ran me $350 shipped.

I haven't zeroed the scope yet. I think I might even be able to get a lower set of rings (burris XTR medium height is what I chose) but I'll have to break out the calipers and see if there is enough room.

So far all I've done is play with the scope, it's crisp and clear, but I don't have anything better to compare it to.

I have confirmed tracking and mil spacing on our charts. This scope is a steal for the money.

Yes, the font looks like an old western movie, not something I want on my modern rifle. But if the 1-6x has true daytime illumination and low distortion I'll get one anyways and just paint it.

Little acetone should get that right off huh? Maybe denatured alcohol.
