Nikon vs Redfield which is better?

I know its been asked 10k times and i have searched but i guess want to speak my peace and see if there is anything somebody can recommend.

I am building my first AR 15. I am already over budget and didnt want to spend more than $100 on the scope and mounts but it seems like everyone in here says to atleast get something a little more like the Nikon 223 or Redfield revolution at bare min. Both are under 200 but what is better? Anyone recommend something about 100ish?

I am no competition shooter but i would like something that can hold zero and a decent glass for the money. I shoot from 100-300 some range and some high sierra plinking. I have been a casual shooter for 15 years and i have decent eyes

I had both. The redfield was nice but the Nikon glass was slightly better than the redfield.

Wow ok so Nikon so far all the way...what would suit my needs better a 223 series and which or the Pro Staff?

Redfield is a low end Leupold FWIW.

Nikon. Don't skimp...buy the best glass you can afford.

Redfield has better warranty but check out the Redfield Battlezone. I just got mine in the mail today. Lots of folks already have Nikons and are happy with them but me thinks the Battle zone is going to be just as big.

Probably same as the Nikon. The Revolution is US made but the Battlezone is clearly stamped with Philippians. I can tell you this looking through it is very clear i can't wait to get it sighted in.

All the Nikons I believe under $1k are made in the Philippines, also Burris, Vortex and some others I forget... Nikon cameras are made in Thailand. Redfield Revolutions are USA while Revenge are Philippines.

You want reasonably Japan made optics then go Weaver Classics.

Nothing wrong with that - good stuff cheap labor.

I went with the Redfield battlezone because it is configured for either the 308 or 223. I'm shooting a 6.5mm Grendel which tracks the 308 trajectory so it should work great in the hunting ranges.

I would add the Vortex Diamondback series to the list of things to look at in the $200 mark… I picked the diamondback over the Red and Nikon back in the days. In my comparisons it had better glass than both those options, tracked well and held zero.

Some of the higher priced Philippines glass like the Vortex PST stuff isn’t bad at all, actually pretty good…. But it doesn’t hold a candle to some of my scopes with Japanese glass but there is a price to pay for quality optics if that’s what ur into.
