    On vs Off

    Ladies and Gents

I recently got into a debate with a co-worker regarding my practice of leaving on my Aimpoint Comp M4. I explained to him that I feel if you use a high quality battery there should be no issues with leaving it on or off for that matter. I explained that It has been on going on 3yrs now with no issues. I must also add that I have a Energizer Ultimate Lithium AA battery installed. His argument/advice is that I should not store my optics with batteries installed. I respect this persons advice being that I know his background but not on this one.

Would like to get everyone else's opinions

Why does he say that? Can he point to any manufacture's data or other reliable source that backs up the position? No insult intended but make sure he's living in this generation of electronics.

Aimpoint lists battery life at 8yrs for the Comp4. If you shoot your rifle every couple of months and it's not set for immediate use (i.e. home defense), sure you can turn it off. But removing batteries seems a bit over the top.

My work rifle has an Aimpoint PRO on top, it stays "on". It's one less thing to forgot about when I need to grab it in a hurry. From the battery life perspective, I have a sticker on the lens cap with the date I last changed the battery. I switch it out on a regular schedule. That was also the advice from Aimpoint.

He's thinking of what used to happen with old crappy alkaline batteries(even with new crappy alkaline batteries it can be a problem)

That's what I was thinking was his justification. Will bring this topic up once again for discussion with him on Tuesday.

Have Comp M3, Aimpoint has that ACET Advanced Circuit crap, the batteries lasted 300,000hrs at daylight setting 7 of 9. I leave mine on for the same reason Mixicus does - one less thing, one less step, toward potentially saving your life or the life of others....How do you like the PRO btw? never seen one, it is fairly similar to the Comp M3/4s right?

And you should be keeping your firearms issues to yourself

I wouldn't exactly call getting a consensus on whether to keep batteries stored in a optic, "firearm issues"

I leave my Comp M4S on as well, one less thing to worry about in a stress situation. PRO is very similar to the Comp M4 series with a few less features but a nice one in that you can look through the clear lens cover which I see as a plus.
