Problem adjusting elevation

I was at the range yesterday to sight in a 22-250 Rem 700 with a leupold VX-2 6-18x. Been a great scope and have had no problems.

First thing was when first shots were almost off the paper unlike previous times after bore sighting with a cheap red dot sighter. Normally only a couple inches off. Usually I always default to the 50 yard line to start just to get started.

Then after finally finding POI, started adjusting. Was off 10 inches, high and right, so just spun the knob a bunch and fired another round. Working good so far. Windage was not a problem. One click and I could see the response.

Got it to impact about 2" high on center, so moved the knob 6 clicks(1/4 MOA each). No change. Still at 50 yards. Thought unusual so proceeded to adjust 6 again. A little better and moving in the right direction. Adjusted a couple clicks and all of a sudden, I was 2" low. It jumped 3" or so.

Readjusted back and got it where I wanted but is it at all normal for the scope not to take adjustment and jump later?

A cheap scope, I could understand but a Leupold?

Tap it in between adjustments with a plastic handle of a screw driver.

Thanks for the suggestion about tapping after adjusting.

The thing I can't make sense with is that while bore sighting, I could see the movement at each click. It was so definitive and now to experience the lag is what is puzzling me.

Is it a norm to move a couple clicks and actually go a couple clicks to far and click back to help center the adjustment? Shouldn't need to do so but ??

I had not used this scope for a year or so but again that should not make a difference.

I will re-bore sight watching the red dot and crosshair and see if there is a delay or lag. I am curious as to where the "bore sight" is after zeroing at 100 compared to the 10" off at 50 thing.

That was not uncommon with old scopes but less common now. Most scopes have small springs that push the reticle adjustment when the adjustments are made. Check with Leupold, I'm sure that they'll tell you to send it back for a warranty repair.
