I don't like a fixed power scope. I personally wouldn't even consider a SS.
I totally agree with C.G. post.
I hear the the Konus M-30 scopes are well made and a good value. I plan to try one out.

A lot of people stand by them especially for low recoil, moderately accurate rifles like AR-15s. I would never buy one though, don't get me wrong they aren't bad scopes but I insist on something better. Unless you have a strict budget spend a little more on a Leupold VX-III. There's a wide range of sizes and features and I think they are the best scopes in the 0-600 range.
One thing to keep in mind with scopes is that ignorance is bliss. A lot of people love their scopes and can't imagine what could possible make a more expensive scope in the same size/magnification that much better. Then one day they get to try out something with higher quality glass and the difference is like night and day.
If you just want to throw up a scope for some plinking and don't plan on getting a more accurate rifle or longer ranges than you could be happy with a super sniper. Otherwise spend a little more now and you won't regret it.
And FOV = field of view. its the area you can see at a particular magnification and range, makes more sense in degrees (range independent) but scope manufacturers advertise feet for hunters to make it easy to imagine the size of different silhouettes.Last edited by harlot; 05-10-2008, 12:46 AM.Comment

thank for the info guys. I'm gonna get the super sniper, i've heard great reviews on the net and i'm really on a tight budget. And i'm still gonna have to buy some scope rings which are also pricy.Comment

if you want to stay fixed power, bushnell's 3200 10x mildot is a robust piece that will more than easily handle the recoil of the 223/556 and is about 1/2 the price of a super-sniper. of course it doesn't look as tacticool but you could get a whole set-up, scope, rings, caps for less than the price of the SS before rings, acc, etc.CRPA Lifetime MemberComment

I own leups and have handled USOs, very fine scopes, however, after a TON of research several years ago, before the stopped, then restarted making them for SWFA, I decided to add a SS 10X to my HKSR9T, and I have never looked back.
It is FAR more than moderatley accurate, my best so is 9 shots, .9 inches at 100y.
It also features an etched glass reticle, and has handled hundreds of 308 rounds without a hitch. They are commonly used on .50s, I don't know where the "mild recoil" stuff comes from, I've never seen any complaint that they can't handle recoil.
I'd say its 90% of my leup, tons of elevation, nice mildots, appears bulletproof.Originally posted by tony270It's easy to be a keyboard warrior, you would melt like wax in front of me, you wouldn't be able to move your lips.Originally posted by repubconservPrint it out and frame it for all I careOriginally posted by el chivoI don't need to think at all..Originally posted by pjsigYou are talking to someone who already won this lame conversation, not a brick a wall. I've got one that I'm using on my 50, but haven't shot it yetLord, make my hand fast and accurate.
Let my aim be true and my hand faster
than those who would seek to destroy me.
Grant me victory over my foes and those who wish to do harm to me and mine.
Let not my last thought be 'If I only had my gun."
And Lord, if today is truly the day you call me home, let me die in an empty pile of brass.

Does anyone know where to get 30mm scope rings for an m4 without the carry handle for a good price? I need some high rings so my front sight won't be in the way.Comment

Why not buy something more appropriate for an AR for the same or less money?
You're going to have more issues than just rings here, as well. The SS need eye relief...
