Good scope for an AR 15

I just purchased an AR 15, honestly I've only had shotguns for hunting, a couple hand guns and a lever action 30-30 because I always wanted a western style gun. To my point... What are some reliable scope choices? I have read that you should spend as much for the scope that you did for the gun, but with what i have laid out on the rifle and ammo i'm getting tight on funds. Does anyone have a $500 or so recommendation?

That advice is 20-30 years old and obsolete. What do you want to do with your AR? That's the starting point.

I just mounted and sighted a VX-R Patrol 1.25-4 x 20mm on my AR this past Sunday.
My first impression is that this is an excellent AR scope.

For the price it just can't be beat. Primary Arms stocks them too as does Optics Planet and many others.

Hand made USA optic from an Industry leader with a lifetime warranty.

I went with the VX-R, 1.25-4X standard dials (non-Patrol) with fire-dot circle reticule. Mine was like $350 + $100 for a good quality mount.

Like stated above depends on what you want to do with it. what ammo you want to run through it. Good idea to use a bdc reticle made for the 223/5.56 like the nikon lineup the burris mtac is an awesome optic though for an ar15

I plan on getting this TAC30 with fastfire red dot on my newest build.
