    Aimpoint problem

I have an Aimpoint Pro that I bought about 2 months ago. Right after I got it I took it to the range and got it dialed in. No problems. It's been in the safe since then. Just today I picked up my rifle and took a look through the scope and instead of 1 red dot there is a little cluster of 4 or 5 dots. It seems worse on the brighter settings, if I dim it down to the lowest setting there is only 1 dot but as you turn up the brightness it seems like the dot multiplies. Has anyone else had this problem? How can I fix this or do I have to send it back to Aimpoint to get fixed? Any help or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks, Tim

Sounds like you should send it back, and that sucks I only have aimpoints including the pro. All have been excellent

Before you do anything, have someone else look through it, preferably someone without crappy vision.

While I've never heard an astigmatism causing little cluster of dots... I have hear of the dot becoming so misshapen that it looks like two retarded dots.

If a couple other folks see the same thing you're seeing, i'd send it in to get fixed.... if nobody sees it but you... I'd get an EOTech since it shouldn't have the same type of problem.

If you have astigmatism the eotech red dot/circle will have starburst effect. Meaning you will see pixels instead of a clear defined image.
I didn't know I had astigmatism till I first looked through my eotech. I thought it was broken till I had my wife look through it and she was able to see a clearly defined image. Sadly I am now wearing glasses.

It's the opposite Jeymz... if you have astigmatism, the dot in a red dot changes shape and is not circular. When I look through an aimpoint, I don't get a circle, i get an oblong shape.

By design, the EOTech reticle can't do that, because it is a holographic projected image.

The reason you saw dots on your eotech was because you focused on the reticle instead of the target. The EOTech is designed to become sharp when you focus on a target at proper distance.

I agree with the oblong of shape with a red dot when you have astigmatism.
For me, when looking at the holographic image of an eotech (focused on target or not) I get a halo/starburst affect. When I put on my glasses, I get the expected sharp circle/dot image. YMMV

the lens are misaligned, you are seeing multiple reflections of the LED...send it back to Aimpoint.

OP, look through the aimpoint and look at led dot. Now rotate the optic. If the blob/cluster stays the same and doesn't rotate, you, like many of us, have f-ed up eyes. If the blob retains its shape yet rotates in relation to the optic housing being rotated, send it in for repair/replacement as the lens is likely misaligned. Good luck!

Op, another thing you can try is use your rear flip up sight (assuming you have one?) look through the peep hole and see if the dot crisp up? If it does, you may have astigmatism.

Sadly I didn't know/realize this and traded my PRO for that very same reason. But I didn't really mind since I was able to trade it for a 10/22 plus accessories.
