I have been searching for a while now to find the right sight for my AR, and I have narrowed it down to two. Both are Primary Arms (thanks to a lot of help from people here at Calguns). But now I am indecisive on which I would like. The 2 choices I have are the PAC3x or their new 6x ACSS sights.
I like the idea of the 6x because I like shooting long distances (I would like to take my AR out to 500yds). I have used ACOGs with 4x and 3x magnification. At 4x I shot to 100yds and it was great. The 3x I took to 150-175yds and it seemed a bit small to me. I think I would enjoy the extra magnification of the 6x for the shots past this range.
I like the 3x because I am concerned with the 6x I will lose the speed to engage closer targets. I am a frontsight member and intend to take their rifle course with the sight I buy, and much of their shooting is at very short distances and timed. Because of this I am wondering if 3x should be the way to go.
In addition I am wondering about what I should buy with the scope I choose. The 3x has an option of buying a quick detach rail system. Is that worth it? Does it work well/is it convenient/Does it hold zero (I have backup flip up sights)?
For the 6x what mount should I get? Do you recommend upgrading to Butler Creek covers? Why or why not?
