Best Mount to Scope an AR

I just finished my 300 blackout and am going to put a CMR-AK762 Tactical Scope (leatherwood) on it. My question is, what is a good mount? I scoped my M1A and with that mount, if someone gets closer than the glass is useful, I can always look under the mount to see my buis. I'm looking for your opinions on what works and what to stay away from.. Thanks for your responses

I like the Armalite one-piece mount. It allows for Quick Disconnect and remount without losing zero and is as rugged as the day is long. It also is a decent price point.

I highly recommend the low version versus the high version. IMHO low is the best way to go because it allows for a proper cheek weld on the stock and good head position for best ergonomics while shooting.

A better option for BUIS is to put a set on the handguard. No head position change, just slightly cant the rifle and you are on the irons quickly. Transition back to the scope is the same, no head position shift, no change in cheek weld, super fast.

JP has several options for this. Discrete rear on rail just behind scope with separate front out on the end of the handguard or the one-piece SRTS that goes on the handguard entirely.

^^^ And if you don't like those, there's Leupold, Burris, American Defense, Weaver, LaRue(VFZ) among others.

Go to SWFA and click on all the different brands. It's hard to go wrong, really. Like I said, there is a lot of good stuff out there, and you don't have to spend a ton to get something nice and solid.

Wait, what quick disconnect? These are just thumb screws, so they will be less consistent than lever locks. One more decent option is Rock River mounts, nicely made and even cheaper.

I'm also choosing an AR mount and so far LaRue QD LT104 seems to be the best. Burris PEPR is very sturdy, but the weight! 10.1 oz!
Can you guys recommend some other lightweight QD-lever mounts?

Another lightweight qd mount would be bobro. Some prefer them over larue. Ive never used either i only have not qd mounts.

I can think of a few reasons.
1. Easier to clean / mod / gunsmith without a scope.
2. Transport several rifles in soft cases in the trunk - less chance to damage scopes/mounts.
3. Air travel. Luggage is constantly abused.

I just bought a Bobro QD mount for my AR and love it. Quality stuff, super smooth attaching/removing from the rail and no first time adjustments needed like the La Rue mount I have.


Down the road I'll probably dump my La Rue for another Bobro.

I have several of the Armalite QD one-piece mounts and thumb-screw or not, they do return to zero every freakin' time. IMHO, the thumb-screw is more robust than a lever than can be easily activated. Once you torque down the thumb-screws with a quarter, they are staying put until you purposely loosen them up. They have never vibrated loose on me in lot's of hard knocks usage either.

I love the Leatherwood CMR scope. It's an awesome scope with some very nice features. It has a clear field of view, decent eye relief, and very repeatable finger-adjustable turrets. For that scope, I recommend ARMS rings. ARMS Rings are rock solid and feature throw levers for quick disconnect if necessary.

When I trade out my Weaver Classic K 4x38, I swap it with the Leatherwood CMR. I use the ARMS rings because they can be swapped easily due to the handy throw levers. I used ARMS #22 high rings so I could still mount my DPMS Mangonel rear BUIS behind the scope. Just something to consider. Cheers! --1911ShooterPhil

The problem with being able to use iron sights under the mount, is that you won't get as good of a cheek weld when using the optic then...
Better to put them at 45angle probably, or get a QD mount so you can remove the optic. It is also best to have the optic mounted as close to the bore as possible.
