    Leupold VX-R Patrol...thoughts

Was looking at getting this scope in the 1.25-4. Anybody have this scope and what are your thoughts on it? I'm mounting to an AR-15 5.56/.223 with 16" barrel.

Any issues shooting both eyes open with it not being a true 1x? Somebody told me once that you can also leave the cover down and use non dominant eye (both eyes open) for a better "red dot" type feel.

    Thoughts?

I mounted the VX-R Patrol on my LE Series Colt and can shoot with both eyes open on the 1.25 magnification. Any higher than that I have to close my non-dominant eye. I really like the optic and it is very easy to use, and provides more performance than I will likely ever use.

Perfect. On the lowest setting is the only time I was looking to shoot both eyes open for CQ and quick target acquisition. Thank you!

I went with the VX-R with is basically the same scope without the P5 dials or BDC.

You can use the scope with both eyes open. Still not as fast as a RDS, but faster then Iron Sights for close range.

You're very welcome! Plus, I had great experiences with Leupold since I was a junior shooter and they are 100% US made, so it was an easy choice for me.

I also just got this scope with the SPR reticle and mounted on my Colt 6940 with a LaRue LT-104 mount. At the lowest magnification I can use both eyes open, not a problem. A great scope and mount.

I was curious about mounts as well. With the feedback you have all provided....I ordered the vx-r patrol from midway already! Feel good supporting them, especially after the donation they made to the NRA.

I used Leupold's Mark 2 IMS (integral mount system).
