Windage Knob Maxed out

okay im a noob! yes first step is admission!
so i mounted my scope, aligned the crosshairs level, now im bore sighting the rifle (browning xbolt 308/scope Nikon Prostaff 3.5-50mm bdc) and if im not mistaken
the top knob according to manual is windage(horizontal knob correct?)
right knob is elevation(vertical?), so i got it to where the laser is just underneath dead on and when i adjust the windage to get the horizontal line to come down it maxes out, where the knob gets tight and no longer clicks.
what the h e double hockey sticks am i doin wrong

The elevation knob should be on top, windage knob will be on the right when viewing from behind the scope. The directional markings on the knobs are in reference to the point of impact, not the direction the crosshair will move. To move your crosshair downward in relation to the laser dot from the boresighter, you'll actually crank the knob in the "up" direction. Same thing for windage, the crosshair will move in the opposite direction of the directions marked on the knobs in order to correctly shift point of impact. Hope this helps.

Yea duh I read manual incorrectly, picture was misleading I included pics to show how close I got to center until the elevation knob maxed out is it because its 5-10 ft away only?

^^^ yes it's because you are 5-10 feet away. Don't sight in from that distance you wont be anywhere near target at shooting distance.

Use 20-25' distance, get windage where it needs to be, but set crosshair elevation to be about 2-2.5" above the laser dot. Bullet is still rising until it's 30-40 yards out. At 5-10 feet you would want the height of crosshairs above laser dot to be just about the same distance as the centerline of scope is above the bore center of the barrel (about 3-3.5 inches typically).

Also, try tapping the turret with a plastic mallet lightly between adjustments, it is very common for reticles to not move much, if at all when just cranked, it quite often takes a recoil like impact to actually get them to move, you may find the reticle jumps into place after a little tapping.

I suggest you take it as far as you possibly can. 200 yards, 300 yards. Those tall trees 4 houses away make great boresight targets (no need for laser pointers).

Boresight to long distances and I can sight in starting at 100y easy. sometimes in the black on the first shot.

Try it at 25 yards if that does not work remount the scope and rings.
