A half inch rise will probably get the FS tower out of the middle of your scope view but you are still going to see some of the FS even with a riser. I would just live with it. The more you raise the scope, the more you have to raise your head and mess up your cheek weld on the stock. I hate to have to "Prairie Dog" to look through a scope, especially when shooting prone. JMHO, YMMV

I have a 3-12x40 scope on an one inch riser and the sight picture is good.

many ballistics calculators will not understand a 3.5" height over bore for a .223--- EDIT...I GUESS THEY DO! MINE GOES TO 10CM, WHICH IS 3.9"

You would be better off chopping the top off of the FSB, getting the scope as low as possible and run buis on the side.

You could then run a tubed free float handguard over the chopped FSB since its just like a low-profile one.

Normally I'd say to not bother, but since you're using a 3x acog I can see how the blur could be annoying. Chop the FSB down so you aren't stuck having to use a chin-weld with a riser.

Thanks for the info. When looking for a new gas block what diameter do I need? I just didnt want to pay 150 for a gas block with buildin flip up sight.

I would not use a riser… it would throw off the BDC calibration in the ACOG changing the sight height…

^^^ This, either live with it or chop that sucker off!

Here is a pic id a shave top where the FSB has been milled off to provide a clear field of view.

Well first off you need to know what length your barrel is.

depending on you type of barrel you most likely need s gas block with a .750 diameter.

16" has threaded muzzle devices which means you can unscrew it and slip the A2 style FSB off and slip on a low pro gas block.

a 14.5 with perm muzzle brake requires you to dill out the blind pin and un-weld it, then re-weld the muzzle device back on after you swap the gas blocks. In that case the better way to go is to use a dremel tool to cut off the Sight Tower. You can then buy railed handguards and install a MBUS on the front. You just need to do this while the FSB is still on the gun.

That's weird, I use a 2.5x scope inline with the FSB and the front site is blurred out. I can't even notice it.

Some folks don't mind this, some do. Some optics show it clearer, some don't
