iPhone spotting scope cam

I wanted a cheap and effective way to mount my iphone to my spotting scope so I could record some long range shots.

I had seen a few options online that ranged from $40-60. While that seemed pretty reasonable I figured I could do it cheaper and maybe better.

Well in about 5 min I had jerry-rigged this system together. This is just a crude proof of concept for now until I come up a better way but just thought I'd share.

I simply super glued a cap for a spray can to a cheap iphone case. Centering the cam is a bit of a PITA but can be done with some patience.

I think the cap I used was actually from a can of Remington action degreaser.

Picture taken @ 36x from about 75 yds. It focuses surprisingly well.

I think I'm gonna try again with a new cap cut a bit cleaner and glued on with JB weld or the like. I don't expect the super glue to hold for long.

What do you guys think?

It looks like it would work pretty good. Im interested to see video or pictures of it in action. Keep us posted and I agree don't use crazy it will fall off in a matter of minutes I would recommend some epoxy.

OK I know it's been a while but I finally got a chance to put this thing to work a few weeks ago and captured some decent video using it.

I got a new cap and cut it up a little more cleanly and JB welded it to the case for a more permanent fit.

Then I took it with me to Tumey Hills for some medium-long range action with my Savage .308. It captured the shots pretty well, even got the bullet trace. I think next I need to step up to a better spotting scope.

What would you guys recommend for a good spotting scope in the 200-400 dollar range?
