Leupold 6.5-20 EFR Target Dot size

Does anyone know what is the size of the target dot in this scope. I tried looking this up on Leupold's site but couldn't find the info.

    Thanks.

      you sure about that?

This reticle? I have this reticle on my Vari-X II 3-9 and it covers much more than 1/8" at 100 yards. More like 1 inch, .75 inches. It almost spans a 2-liter bottle at 320 yards. Certainly more than half a 2-liter bottle.

I don't have old eyes yet, but im pretty sure I wouldn't be able to SEE a 1/8 MOA dot in a reticle! aren't the "wires" thicker than 1/8?

Verified with Leupold, definitely 1/8 moa at 20x.

            Opticsplanet,

First of all I bought a Leupold 1-4 scope from your company a month back. Super fast shipping and great scope!

Sorry for the question but say at 20X at 200 yards, how much would that dot cover up? Just wondering if this reticle would be appropriate for ground squirrels out to max 300 yards.

            Thanks.

Just my humble opinion, but I am not a fan of dots in the crosshairs. I have always preferred plain crosshairs or duplex type where thicker lines taper to a fine point at center. I don't like having actual target area covered by anything. Reduces aiming precision IME.

I prefer dots. They improve aiming precision IME.

The human eye is REALLY GOOD at making circles concentric. So as long as you are using targets with round black dots in the middle, it's a slam dunk.

I prefer crosshairs-no-dot for those targets that have 4 squares in the middle, since I have no dot to line up with.

Since the overwhelming popular target out there is the NRA 25 yard pistol target with a (roughly) 6" circle in the middle, the target dot makes it WAY easier to post one hole groups.

Even with my target dot which is way bigger than 1/8th MOA in diameter.

it's not perfect math, but let's forget the tolerance buildup for a second. 1moa = 1" at 100 yards (not exactly, but it's close enough for your question.)

So @ 20x, that 1/8th MOA dot is gonna be 1/8th of an inch at 100 yards. You could cover the "X" of most targets and see white around the dot completely.

                  At 200 yards it'll be 1/4"
                  At 400 yards it'll be 1/2"
                  At 800 yards....

If you go far enough the slight difference (1moa isnt EXACTLY 1" at 100 yards) will getcha. But inside 300 yards? I guarantee you you can use 1moa = 1" at 100 yards and never miss.

And FYI I have no idea how big my target dot is but it's gotta be pushing 1moa at 9x. I'd have no problems with squirrels at 300 yards, provided I was on a lead sled or the like. my technique would be a bigger limiter than my rifle or ammo.
