EOTech 552.XR308 vs EoTech 552

hey guys i have a DPMS style 308 i built . i am lookin to put an EoTech on it i saw the one specific for the .308rnd . i am curious it is worth it to buy that one or just go with a normal eotech

rilfe is a 18in barrel ,for general shooting at the range out to maybe 500yds will get the magnifier in the future for either one . i might also use this for the occasional hunting trip

The XR 308 reticle is geared around the 150 gr M59. Can you use it with yoru 308, absolutely. can you also use a A65 with 1 dot, 2 dots, or the 4 dot reticle, absolutely again. If you cartridge matches close to the M59, 2800 fps, the XR308 is a nice choice. I'm a little biased to the A65 with 2 dots, or 4 dots if you want to shoot out to 500 yards w/ magnifier. Like any style of BDC reticle, onec you have it zeroed, a little time at the range will give you your distances for teh various hold over points. You will most likely be a little closer to whole yardages with the XR 308, but you can still jot down a little dope on a card/sticker/ tag and have those holdovers handy with any reticle choice.

For 500 yard shooting, XR308 is a good choice, as is the AR223 4 dot reticle.

why would i use the ar223 4 dot reticle isn't that for the .223/5.56 rnd and not 308?

Its designed around a m855 62 gr, but I have used that reticle on a 223, 6.5 grendel, 22 LR, 450 bushmaster and 308. Nice thing about a BDC style reticle is you can really use it with anything. The AR308 is designed for a 150 gr. M59 FMJ at 2800 fps out of a 24.8'' barrel. If you shoot a variance of that, your holdovers will vary slightly. The AR223 is made for that M855, but if you shoot a 45 gr. or 72 gr, it will vary just as shooting a 168 gr or others on a XR 308.

To sum up, the XR 308 will work, but dont discount the XR223. You can zero the XR223 reticle at whatever distance you want. spend a little time at the range sending rounds down and find out where those other holdovers are. Just as I can easily take the XR308 and use it on a 50 BMG, 12 slug, etc. Just saying if you go with a standard A65 1 dot, 2 dot, and so on, you can still use it extremely effectively on your 308 once you work out your ballistics, as you would with any reticle.
