Aimpoint Problems

I just recieved my new Aimpoint ml2 in the mail today and took it out of the box and put the battery in it. I turn it on and it takes 5 clicks out of the nine just to even begin to see the dot. Then the dot isnt even round. Not even close. You also see a tiny dot right in the middle that looks like a reflection on the lens that is closest to your eye which should not be there. What do you think is wrong here?

Nothing.

It takes a number of clicks for it to get bright enough.

The out of round is most likely your eyes from looking at it close, rather than focusing on a distant target.

At the brightest setting nearly all of the APs I've seen will have that dot on them.

Alright, i was wondering if it might be my eyes. I wear contacts so i switched to my glasses and it was the same issue but the dot was a different shape. The dot even changes shape based on what eye i use to look through it. Kinda weird i guess. So are you supposed to be able to see the dot on the first 3 clicks?

It is probably your eyes. Also the dot won't be as clear inside as it will be outside in sunlight. You always get some glare inside. Have someone with 20/20 vision take it outside and look through it and ask them what they see.

Yeah, it was just my eyes. I took it new out of the box and turned it on and it was because i wasnt looking through the scope at the target. I put it on my rifle and looked though the scope at something farther away and it works fine now. I had a trijicon reflex sight a while back that I didnt have the problem with so that was why i was worried. I love it now except for the fact that the first 3-4 power settings are completely useless. You cant even see anything in a pitch black room.

I do believe they're the NV compatible settings.

I thought that might be the case. Its the ML2 though which I thought didnt have NV settings but maybe it still does.

On the ML2 they are not NV settings, they are just really low power settings. Once your eyes adjust in a really dark room you can often see it at the low(est) settings. At least some people can. Not all eyes have the same "dynamic range" of light receptors.

Imagine how much more useless the NV-compatible M2 would have been... for $60 more, too!

First time Aimpoint user here also...

When you guys set your Aimpoint at max level indoors, do you see an incomplete red ring reflection on the eye piece border?

Update: I just called Aimpoint support and they said that is normal. Highest level is only to be used on the brightest day.

i think i might be experiencing the same thing i bought a comp ml2 today
and the dot on lower settings looks almost like an open circle (o) as opposed to a dot (.)is it possible i got a bad sight

i think the oblong shape of the dot has a lot to do with your eye, maybe a slight astigmatism.

I know with my eotech, and my right eye, the reticle would appear doubled sometimes and was very annoying. If i looked with my left eye, it was perfect.

It was only when looking through it indoors and with bad lighting (my eye would focus on the reticle and get all messed up). when outdoors and looking at the target, it was fine.

your problem is kinda the same as the gripes people have about eotech. you're over analyzing it by starring at the dot, not at the sight picture. people complain that the eotech dot has multiple little reticules in it and it looks wierd (because they're looking AT the reticle), but when they actually get a site picture at a distanced target, they don't even know those little dots exists anymore. i guarantee once you mount the aimpoint, go to a range and shoot, you'll see you were worried about nothing.
