EOTech 552 battery box repair options?

I bought an EOTech 552 back in 2006 and since 2010 I've had issues with it turning off when firing. I was told by my friend that the design of the AA batteries running in parallel to the barrel will cause the springs over the years to lose tension and make the batteries lose connection to the sight. That's what causes the Optic to turn off during shooting and why the new EOtechs rely on a battery turned 90 degrees from the barrel to mitigate recoil affecting the springs.

The thing turns off even if I slap the CCO as well so it must really be weak to withstand anymore shooting.

I have one of the new ones now, an XPS3-0, but I wanted to know if there is anything I can do to salvage my 552 like where to get new springs or a replacement battery housing. I hate to let a good red dot CCO go to waste.

    Thanks in advance.

hold off a few. I am searching for a post where a guy modified his 512 to accept a transverse battery pack, thus making it like an XPS... it was on a flashlight forum if I remember correctly.

If you find it, post a link.

Hmm that sucks I guess. Maybe I can try reverse engineering it or something.

I left my EOTech at Fort Bragg in storage so if they ask for the thing's serial number I won't have access to it until June so I'll try calling EOTech as the first course of action. It's good they sell replacement parts though as a last resort.

The conversion to a XPS traverse style would be pretty sweet to do though.

                      That^

The two rubber biscuits (with the springs running through them) are replaced by a "dog-bone" contact assembly.

They sent me a free rubber dogbone thing, and a replacement contact set when my AA batteries took a dump in my unit. Fixed it like a champ
