Need help choosing sights for my AR15

    Hello everyone,
I'm looking for cheap sights to put on my AR until i can afford something real. I am stuck between 2 for right now unless anyone can recommend something else in my price range. I'm still really new with ARs so I don't really know if they are both crap. Please let me know, and thanks.

If you want my honest opinion… save your money and buy something from a reputable manufacture.

If you really want a RDS for cheap, consider one from Primary Arms or a Bushnell TRS-25 for under $100. You can also find a Vortex Strikefire in the $150 price range.

All of those options are much better than what you have selected, and considerably cheaper than the professional alternate (Aimpoint / Eotech)

If you really want the 2nd item you listed… ill sell you mine for $20. If you really want to buy complete crap at least do it at a discount.

If you must stay within that price range, you would be a wise man to buy a set of backup irons if you don’t already have a set of irons sights / BUIS first.

I would run my irons until I could afford a good quality optic. I know it's hard to wait, but it's well worth it. I have a cheepy red dot on my 12 ga and a Aimpoint on one AR and a Trijicon on the other. I can't tell you enough how much of a BIG difference there is in glass and accuracy!!!

Ok thanks everyone. I actually don't even have iron sights either. Just about finished building my AR and realized I still don't have anything to aim with. But I will follow everyones advice. Thanks again.

A $40 dot will last about 4 rounds. You need to start at $400.

Find some standard A2 style sights from a reputable maker. I'm not an AR guy now but I was trained on the A2 and I gotta tell you they are superb. Start with and master those then drop 500 bucks on an optic.

It would be helpful to know if you already have an A2 front… you could just add a folding rear or a carry handle.

If you buy a hobby grade red dot… lots of people have good luck with Primary Arms red dots, but their availability is hit or miss.

Here another option from Vortex… great brand good optic.

Comes with everything you need including a mount. IF you wait for deals I’ve seen these go on sale every once in a while from vendors like PSA…

I posted this in the Deals thread and it's worth picking up when you eventually get an optic especially one that you cannot use with a scope because you can't co-witness them like you can with a Red Dot CCO (Close Combat Optic). This allows you to cant the rifle from a scope to use ironsights for close in shooting or if the scope fails. You don't have to lose cheek weld either. The canted ironsights are $28+S&H instead of over $100-150 like they usually are:

The cheap CCO's you see are meant for the airsoft crowd to be fair (I airsoft too and have some of those sub $50 sights on my airsoft guns). My rifles run Aimpoint or EOTech CCO's which run $400-600 depending on the model and features (getting Night Vision capability costs more for example).

My future purchase I plan on getting a Trijicon ACOG and a Leupold Mk6 for my SCAR 16S and 17S respectively. These are very high quality optics. Decent optics should cost close to or equal to your rifle you put it on. The best optics cost as much or more than the rifle you put it on. This is speaking on the $1K range.

The Army guys I've seen here run Elcan SpecterDR's which is a step up from the Trijicon ACOG's and they all love them, especially over using EOTechs with a magnifier. SpecterDR's can switch between a 1x red dot CCO to an ACOG 4x crosshairs with a flip of a switch. All within the same optic instead of having a magnifier that gets pushed out of the way and sticks out like a sore thumb from the rifle.

Thanks everyone for the information. I'm actually just going to save up until I can afford real optics, and probably buy the rapid transition BUIS. Thanks again.
