    Glass for AR?

Looking to mount glass on my AR and interested to hear feedback as to what is a good setup. I am going to be using it primarily for target and small animal shooting but would like it to have more of a tactical setup. A few folks have suggested Aimpoint or EoTech with a magnifier but open to suggestions.

Anyone have ideas and supportive reasons why?

I like Aimpoints, but you could also go with a Leopold Patrol optic, it's a 1-4x power, with motion activated red dot in center of cross hairs. Runs around $600 something. Check it out, also recommend Aimpoint M4-S model, takes 1 AA bat, lasts for 8 years on setting 11 I think. $6-700 range

Ideally, I'd love to find something that I can use for CQB through 100+ YD shots. I realize I may be asking for the world but thats why I am asking for suggestions. I have seen the aimpoint M4-S and like the look but am not sure that I want to spend that much.

Depends what your price range is really. In able to give you any kind of answer you must give an idea of what you're willing to spend. Red dots range from $80-1600.

If you want target shooting to be fun you'll want to have proper crosshairs so you can be precise with shots in target shooting mode. You want small critters which are going to be at varying ranges and will make the crosshair reticule more important and make you want variable but fairly low magnification. You're going to be at ranges from very close up to moderately far away so you only need a middling power range.

I'd recommend for the above reasons something like a 1.5-4x Leupold Mark AR. http://www.opticsplanet.com/leupold-...stom-shop.html It's not expensive but is high quality. Doesn't pretend to be a super long range sniper scope because it's not one. It's just a proper low power optic for AR-15 shooters.

For rings, I like Burris Signature Series rings.

I run a Burris MTAC 1-4 on a larue lt-104. Magnification is just right for an AR but it is really quick and allows you to shoot with both eyes open just like a red dot on 1x.

I just picked up an Aimpoint PRO after reading many threads and discussions on the interwebs. It came down to battery life, reticle, and price. It's all preference and after using my friends eotech and my aimpoint, I prefer the Aimpoint.

for what its worth i prefer Eotechs. i use a EXPS 3-4 with Magnifier for 3Gun competition and i have them on every .223 AR i own.

Eotechs have a wider window and a larger reticle which results in faster sight acquisition and easier both eyes open shooting. personally i prefer a square optic to a tubular optic. i feel like a tubular sight encourages me to close one eye which is a bad habit. also the ring and reference points around the dot on an Eotech reticle provide a reference point for close range precisio shots, and the BDC dots on the EXPS 3-4 model provide for reference points shooting out to 600 yds.

Aimpoints have muuuuuch better battery life and can be kept constant on. certain models are also smaller and lighter than an Eotech. however the single dot reticle in a smaller optic with a tubular design generally equates to slower sight acquisition.

What do you consider "target shooting"? Going for groups and MOA targets? If so a 2 or 4 MOA dot is not the optimum choice. Your precision is likely limited by your dot assuming you are using good ammo (match or handloads). A traditional style scope will be more satisfying.

If by target shooting, you mean A-zone of an USPSA target, dots and magnifiers (or just a dot) will do you fine. EOTech and Aimpoint both make fine products. If it's for the range, either will work. If it's for duty, go Aimpoint heavily due to the battery life and keeping the optic 'on' 24/7.
