Help from a experienced shooter, single scope ring & mount on a Nikon 3X32 ar scope.

So I have an idea, I was wondering if I could mount my little Nikon optic (3X32 BDC) the same way many Aimpoints are mounted with a single ring&mount and a flip to side base.

I know it can be done it but I want some ideas that could go wrong before I do and have to scrap the idea and remount and balance it back to the to my current set up.

The only plus would be a .25 oz weight reduction and the ability to keep my rear BUS and I can flip the scope to the side if I managed to bust it some how. It may look funky but I perfer options over option and function over from. So whay Am I over looking?

won't work. as i wrote in the other thread (which i know you've seen), flip mounts return to zero with varying degrees of precision, but i've never seen one that was designed and built tightly enough for this purpose. QD forces you to remove the scope, but a good QD mount will get closer to the mix of convenience and precision you seem to be seeking.

ETA: have you ever actually seen a SIGHT in a flip mount? i know this is common with magnifiers (like my own), but i can't remember ever seeing the sight itself in such a mount.

Good point, I have only seen aimpoints with a single mount that are QD but not flip to the side.

Personally I would never trust a single ring mounted optic over 2x magnification (even 1x red dots). Even the slightest shift of the ring could rotate the optic several moa

if your ring base is 6 inches then a .001 inch shift sends you off .2 inches at 33.3 yards (100 feet)

if you use a single ring (~1 inch) then the same shift would send you off 1.2" at 33.3 yards. And thats aside from being far less stable and more likely to shift in the first place.
