    Lost in opticland

Hey guys, I have an ar15 just begging for an optic. I have pretty much ruled out variable scopes so I need your opinions. I can get a TA31 ACOG for the same price as an eotech with g33 magnifier. Which is a better bet? Or am I missing something better and more cost effective. Point me in the right direction fellas. The gun is for cqb up to 200 or 300 yards and zombies.

Why have you ruled out variables? Most of the scopes used in 3 gun competition are 1-4 power.

Eotech w/magnifier if you limit yourself to these two choices. ACOG+RMR is a more appropriate comparison function-wise.
The Trijicon TR-24 falls into your price range.

Never saw the point of a red-dot + a magnifier when a good 1-4x or 1-6x will be just as good up close and even better out farther. I'm also curious why you've ruled out variable power optics.

Speaking as someone who has owned an Eotech + magnifier, a 1-4x24 Vortex PST and now two ACOGs (TA11 + TA31), I can easily say that I'd take the ACOGs over any other setup. I didn't like the magnifier because the sight picture got too dim looking through 4 panes of glass and the 3x magnification did t e a me me to do anything g better than I could with the 1x Eotech. I had an FTS mount and found the whole setup clunky and heavy with no real benefit. The Eotech alone is great though! The Vortex came in 2nd place for a few reasons....glad was okay, but Not like Trijicon glass.....at least in their PST line. Second, though the specs claimed to have a decent field of view, I felt it had a lot of tunnel effect at 4x. Third, the reticle wasnt daylight usable. And lastly, it was much heavier. Both the vortex and Eotech also use batteries. ACOGs on the other hand have better glass, are lighter, and require no batteries. They're rugged, no bs, everything you need and nothing you don't scopes.

Can you tell which I one I'm partial to?

I see what you guys are saaying. Iwad just working with price differentials since iI could buy the eotech now and the magnifier later as opposed to saving for the ACOG. Thanks for the insights.

You won't get good clear glass for cheap. Just save up the $1,000 plus and get a good scope.
