Hey guys, I have an ar15 just begging for an optic. I have pretty much ruled out variable scopes so I need your opinions. I can get a TA31 ACOG for the same price as an eotech with g33 magnifier. Which is a better bet? Or am I missing something better and more cost effective. Point me in the right direction fellas. The gun is for cqb up to 200 or 300 yards and zombies.

Acogs are great for medium range 300-700 yards and require you to look through a magnified scope limiting your time of engagement.
Eotech on the other hand has a huge scope window with no magnification allowing you to keep both eyes open scanning for threats ,also allows for cowitnessing with your irons. If you 0 at 50 yards you will be about an 1.5 high at 100 and 0 back at 200 for three just hold at the zombie's head and your back on center mass. A magnifier can also be added for more accurate shooting further out.

The Acog is as tough as they come. The TA31 is a nice way to go for a few reasons, tritium and Fiber optics, and the BAC. Fiber optics you dont need to worry about batteries, and tritium gives you a little glow at night, and its all you need. Lots of service guys run them and love them. The TA31 also uses BAC, Bindon Aiming Concept. They have spent a lot of time and money into making their product able to be used with both eyes open and not have any adverse affects on your vision. and IT WORKS. both my eyes are open when I'm shooting mine and I can plink away at 25 yards and transition to a 350 yard target without delay. CAN NOT go wrong with a TA31.

Flip side, and EOTech with magnifier is a great way to go as well. A true holographic sight will be more forgiving with head placement and when your magnifier is engaged there is no eye relief problems. You do not need the muscle memory to teh extent as the acog for a sight picture. Once the magnifier is engaged you will need to be mindful of eyerelief, but with a 1 moa reticle you can walk shots out there quite a ways before you even need to switch to the magnifier.

Sorry for the ramble. BOTH are excellent choices and you will be happy with either. I've used both for a while now and have a great deal of love for both. I would go ACOG if you want to keep it simple (no transition) and go EOTech & magnifier if you want a little more freedom and versatility.

Thanks guys, any thoughts on the vortex vmx3 with swing mount? I'm not sure which eds it would work with, but the price point is certainly more agreeable than the G33.

Vortex is redesigning their magnifier, should be released after SHOT im assuming...so hold off on one if you can until late January/February.
