    20 MOA Mount?

I just DROS'ed a Savage 10 FCP-K and have a Nikon Monarch 5-20x44 SF BDC I'm going to put on it however I read the specs on the Nikon and found this: Max internal adjustment: 40 MOA.

So based on everything I've been reading it sounds like if I want to go out to 600-800 I'm not going to have enough adjustment in the scope, is this accurate?

If that is the case do I need to get a mount that 'preloads' the adjustment?
I'm looking at the DNZ tactical one piece mount that adds 20 MOA, if I get this will it have any adverse affects on shooting at shorter ranges or is okay for 100-200 and 600-800?

I know someone will ask about the intent of the rifle/scope, it's mainly to have fun shooting at the range and for friendly competitions with my BiL shooting the IDPA/IPAC cardboard torsos when I go out to my in-laws ranch where distances can run out to 800+.
I'm not looking to compete but when my BiL sets up one of the targets way out there and says 'Let's see who can hit that' I want to have a chance at it.

Looks like that rifle comes in two calibers, assuming we're talking .308 here...

With the 20 MOA base, in theory, you should be able to get on at both. 800 yes, getting on at 100 may or may not work if everything isn't true between the action and mount (do you trust the "trueness" of Savage's machining?). The scope will most likely be bottomed out.

Not knowing the ammo you intend to use, using a generic speed of 2700 fps, shooting the 168gr Sierra MK, you're looking at needing about 15.9 @ 600 and 26.5 @ 800, MOA come ups from a 100 yard zero. This could vary a fair amount based on what you actually shoot.

Personally, if you're set on using that brand mount, I'd consider the 10 MOA version. That would ensure you're able to get on at 100-200 (where it sounds like much of your shooting will be) & 600 yards for sure. Should get you on at 800 as well but, if you don't end up w/ enough adjustment at 800, use the hold-over's on the BDC scope.

If you were to go to a typical one piece tapered base, Farrell, EGW etc. I believe Farrell makes or used to make 10, 15 (sounds ideal here), 20 & 40 MOA bases. You could use the Burris Sig. Zee rings with the offset inserts and dial in the taper you need to make it work. In addition to adding taper and windage, I've used the inserts to essentially take taper out of a base because I couldn't get on at 100 and found I never shot the rifle beyond 300 yards. Grandios plans that never happened.

    Food for thought.

      Crap!
I can't tell you why but I completely missed that DNZ has a 10 MOA version!

I think you just solved my dilemma about how to make this rifle as versatile as possible!

I like the DNZ mounts because they are one piece rail and rings, it's one less point of connection to worry about or misalign.
