    1-4x scope suggestion?

Well I just recieved my tracking number today for Stag 3G upper I ordered. Now I'm looking for 1-4x scope to mount on it. Any suggestions? I'm looking looking for something with a illuminated reticle and My budget is about $400 including a mount.

    Thought about a 1x6?

This is...or was...supposed to be shipping at the end of Nov. Not sure on the latest status.

That would be nice but it's out of my price range. I only have about $400 to work with at the moment.

In that price range I would suggest the Burris TAC30. $279 at Midway.

If you find a little more budget, look at the Vortex 1-4

Unlimited budget I'd pick the Swaro 1-6 or the new Vortex 1-6

Brian Enos forum has good reviews under the multigun section.

I think your best bet for this price is a Burris MTAC.

That tac30 looks nice. What kind of mount would you suggest? Are the burris p.e.p.r mounts any good?

Take a look at the Leatherwood CMR. Amazing glass on those considering the price. Good reticle design as well, although it seems better suited for mid range than close up stuff.

for less than $500 you cant beat the burris tac-30. the PEPR mount is fine for that scope.

if you want to go up a notch the Trijicon Accupoint TR24G is popular with a LaRue LT-104 mount.

I'd also second the TAC30/MTAC in that price range and that PEPR mount works just fine since you're trying to save money.

If you can stand it, wait 'til you can save up a little more and get the Vortex Viper PST 1-4X.

I was just comparing these and really wanted to like the MTAC since it was $100 less, but it just didn't compare to the Vortex in my opinion. Glass, reticle, warranty, are all better on the Vortex for a little more money.

PEPR mounts are very good for the price, I spent the few extra bucks and got the QD mount.

I started this thread (2nd link) when I was thinking about an EOTech and magnifier, but keep reading and you'll see where I changed my mind, and there's some good info on the 1-4x's in there.

I'll second (or is it third) on the Vortex Viper PST 1-4. This is an excellent scope with great glass, even better reticle and rock solid. Put one on an AR for a carbine class and it was fantastic. Like it so much I may buy another one for another rifle.

It's a bit more than you have at $500 without mount, but I'd recommend saving a little more, buying the scope, then getting a modestly priced mount. AR's simply don't buck all that much and even a modestly priced mount will likely stay put. Where AD and some of the other higher end ones earn their keep is when you take it off and put it back on. These will usually hold zero very well where some of the less expensive ones won't.

                        That's my .02

Leupold Patrol is another good choice.

I want to start competing in 3 gun. It seems like its the norm for competition. And I also want to use use it for hog hunting on my property. When I'm walking the river basin hogs pop out anywhere between 5 and 50 yards and I think 4 power would way more than I actually need
