    Optics

I saw another post recently but didn't want to Hijack it. I'm also looking for optics for my new DD M4V3 but I've narrowed it down to EOTech or Aimpoint.

I know both have a different feel and that Aimpoint has a great battery life.

Other than that, does anyone have a preference?

    Thanks,

    Marty

I think everyone has a personal preference but what matters at that level of quality is which you personally like better. The Eotech has a larger sight window but the Aimpoint has better battery life. The Eotech's circle-dot is fast up close and accurate at a distance but some don't like the pixelated reticle. I have a mild astigmatism and the Eotech works better for me because I see the Aimpoint's dot kind funny.

I went Aimpoint due to the better battery life.

I went with a T1 because of weight, battery life, and durability.

              I got the XPS2-0.

Nice, compact form factor. Agree with Fortified Peasant, the 65MOA ring works great for quick targeting and the 1 MOA dot is nice for more selective shooting. As far as battery life, the Eotech will auto turn off after either 4/8 hours.

Be sure to look at one as the holo image is different!

I own a couple Eotech exps and an Aimpoint Pro and an older Aimpoint Xd5000, both are great, but if I had to choose one it would be the Eotech, I prefer the 65moa ring-1moa dot reticle over the Aimpoint 2moa dot with longer battery life. Main reason is the same as mentioned previously, the Eotech has faster targeting at ranges under 100yds and I find it a bit more useful judging distances and allowing for bullet drop past 100 yards or optic / bore height variation closer than 20 yards.

I looked through a eotech and loved it, was very clear and dialed in perfectly. Sits nicely on top of a AR . Has a nice field of vision down range

I run an EOTECH Exps 3-0. I really like the 65 MOA ring with the 1 MOA dot. It's super fast up close, I like using the ring as a point of reference for holdover when I'm in closer than 50 yards, the ease of adjustment for the brightness levels, and the fact the exps series has the mount built into the sight for co-witnessing my irons in the lower third of the site picture. I also like they're an American company producing the sights in the states and providing American jobs.

I'm the exact opposite with my astigmatism. The EoTech is a moving mass of wiggly/squiggly and the Aimpoint dot is pretty good. It's a little bit of a fuzzy oval instead of a crisp round dot, but it's not enough to mess up my aim.

Strangely the ACOG is completely crisp and clear. Too bad I don't want to spend that much money.

Eotechs have great battery life, just not if you've got it running 16 hours a day every day.

I have a Eotech. If you want just the red dot like the Aimpoint, the Eotech XPS2-1 and XPS3-1 has just the red dot.

I LOVED the EOTech design & concept (holography), BUT... with my astigmatism, the reticle bloomed on me, and I couldn't hit squat.

So I went with the Trijicon RX30, which was 31 flavors on AWESOME with it's big 6.5moa gold dot - from 100 yards in, I could hit bullseyes all day! BUT... it was big & bulky, and I wanted to go more low-drag, and so I finally looked into the Aimpoint Comp & T-1 series.

I didn't WANT to believe the fanyboy hype on Aimpoints, BUT... they are the REAL deal! I run a Comp M2, Pro, & T-1 respectively, with a 2moa T-1 offset on my SPR, and an old Comp M (the first one, with about 12 hours of battery life! ) on my dedicated .22LR AR.

The single red dot works wonders (well, maybe that - and the fact I finally got bifocals - after fighting it for 3 1/2 years... ), and now I'm a fanboy too!

                              BEST thing you can do, is try looking through them at shop - better still, through someone else's rifle at the range. GOOD glass is not cheap though, and I've owned the following, JUST in the past 4 years;

                              (2) EOTech 512
                              EOTech 557
                              (2) Trijicon RX30-23
                              Trijicon Tripower HX30
                              Aimpoint Comp M2
                              Aimpoint Pro
                              Aimpoint T-1 4moa
                              Aimpoint T-1 2moa

That's in addition to some longer range Leupold glass for other rifles, including a Mk.4 CQ/T, and some Nightvision.

This AIN'T a cheap hobby - these AIN'T cheap accoutrements. If you wanna hit what you're aiming at, there may be some EXPENSIVE trial & error along the way...
