What do you spend on optics?

I was just wondering what most of you spend on your optics. I know different situations / applications require different types of optics but just trying to get an average. I believe you can find quality optics in the $200-300 for most applications. I own many in this price range as well as a few down into the sub $100 range and a few in the $300-$600 range.

Thats pretty much what I heard as well. Just funny I have some buddies that think I am crazy for spending over $200 on an optic while others wouldn't think of putting a sub $500 optic on there rifle.

Twice as much. A bit over the top. We have rimfires @ $3000 before optics.

My magnified optics generally cost as much as the gun they ride on.

The most important part of a rifle that uses magnified optics... is the optic.

Without it, and without proper tracking and ability to return to zero, even if your gun cost $10K, it's worthless.

Just ordered one minutes ago, a Leupold 2-7x33 VX-R. now to get a LaRue mount.
I'll be around $700 or so by the time it's mounted,
Probably the best I'll ever need for shooting empty soda cans.

$50 eBay specials have been all I have purchased up until very soon... Now that I have a little cash flow, I will probably upgrade.

I will be looking at something around $100-$140 for rimfire, but for my AR: I love iron sights (even more than the $50 scope and $50 mount I have sitting idle).

I've seen people say minimum a dollar for every yard you want to shoot at. Sounds about right really.

Never heard that one.....but it actually sounds like a pretty good rule of thumb

I probably will be one of the guys that swings the bell curve, but the average price on my precision rifle scopes is about $2700.
I have 3 of them.

My average scopes on all my other guns are usually in the $400 price range.
I do have some Acogs, aimpoints and an Elcan though so my tastes run towards higher quality vs cheaper price...

Sounds about right. Never heard it before but my next one is a leupold mk4 on A Barrett 98b

I typically buy something from the 150-750 range depending on what its going on. Ill spend a few hundred or more on a decent aimpoint or eotech. For magnified optics, I like anything from the Optisan Mamba 1-4x30 with an illuminated reticle. I also like buying some higher end nikon, Leupold, or other scopes that will get you out there and reach for varmint and hunting rigs. A little bit of everything from tactical to high end hunting is my preference.
