I need a scope for an SKS

Friends dad can see to well want's to shoot out to 300 yards any advise on an SKS scope?

Shoot out to 300 yards with a SKS?? You can, but even with a scope, IMHO it wont be dead on accurate. I had a SKS with Nikon 3-9x40 scope, 100 yrds and under is fine, probably around 2-4 inch grouping if I did my best. Finding a scope mount with a solid base was difficult. I had a guy in Michigan custom made me a base. Trigger on SKS sucks, rounds are meant only to be spray and nothing more. Not my choice for 300 yrd. Good luck.

I put the Bushnell Banner 3-9x40 on my SKS. I had the Norinco mount which was solid, it was just difficult to zero initially but shot straight. I had a trigger job done on the rifle which made a huge difference and I also got a simple steel case deflector so the ejected cases werent hitting the scope.

All in all, something I would do again and I had no problem hitting steel out to 600 yrds....and I still have the rifle.

It's not the scope an on AK, it's the mount. It has to be rock solid to the receiver, not the dust cover.

I can hit a mans torso at 500 using a scope with my AK.

Agreed. I mounted one of the choate side rails to my SKS before selling it. Was the most stable mount I could find.

Im sure you can and everyone else can to. Would it be my 300-500 yrd precision rifle, NO! IMHO, There are better rifle for made for that distance.

There are a lot of rifles made for that distance and no not every one can hit a torso at that range using an AK. An AK is made for CQB but with glass can hit man size targets at 500-600 yards. He has an SKS and is not looking for another rifle just some glass.

The SKS is used as an urban sniper's rifle in some parts of the world, the rough equivalent I guess to our M14-based snipers' rifles:

That's an SVD/Dragunov mount. There are also PU mounts in use out there.

The ballistics of the shorter 7.62 round limit it to 200 meters or so, but 300 meters could be doable. Semi-auto actions such as these tend to be less precise than bolt actions, and I've seen more than one picture now where snipers are carrying both Dragunov and Mosin snipers' rifles. The Mosins are making a comeback!
