Totally Lost with MOA and Scope talk

I'm looking at AR 3gun competition scopes and many I see are 1x4 MOA scopes and seem fairly expensive.

I came across Ultradot scopes are the gun show and the Matchdot 1x2,4,6,8 MOA.

What dose that all mean? The scope can be a 1x2, 1x4, 1x6, and 1x8 MOA scope?

What the difference above with a 1-8x scope?

What max distance would a scope like that be going out too?

Im not sure what ultra dot is, but it sounds like they are talking about the size of the dot, not the power of magnification on the scope.

The Matchdot is a 1x scope available in different reticle sizes: 2, 4, 6, or 8 MOA dot. At 100 yards, the dot would cover approximately 2", 4" 6" or 8", or for those who are going to correct me 2.094", 4.188", 6.282" or 8.376".

1 inch @ 100 yards is 1MOA
So 1 MOA @ 300 yards is 3 inches

4 Inches @ 100 yards is 4 MOA, so 4 MOA @ 300 yards is 12 inches (3x4=12)

A 1 MOA dot is ridiculous in my opinion. It offers no value over a 2 MOA dot, but can't be seen as well. The 1 MOA dot in the center of a EOTech reticule has a 65 MOA circle aiding your eye in tracking it.

MOA = Minute of Angle. It is close to 1" at 100 yards but, that is not the definition of it. A circle has 360 degrees. Each degree is divided into 60 minutes. 1 moa is an agular measurement NOT a linear measurement at a certain distance.

Yes but in this case the stated MOA is the size of a dot as viewed through glass and referenced at 100 yards.

It actually is the same thing. A 2 moa dot will cover a circle which measures 2moa at any distance. OK, the circle or dot is actually a conical 3D shape and not just a 2D angular measurement. However, the conical shape of the dot coverage is directly related to the angular measurement.
