    Leupold Scopes

Just saw this video from Leupold. Considering the state of our economy and the imbalanced trade going on, it is nice to see a video highlighting the men and women putting these quality optics together.

Leupold has had an interesting history with regard to tactical scopes and the tactical community. In the 90s they seemed to listen pretty well to both Military and LEO end users. When the Mark 4s made it on the M24, it was a pretty big deal. But somewhere along the lines they fell off this wagon and started doing stupid ****. Pretty much from 2001-2010 they were a ****ing pain in the *** to deal with when it comes to improving their tactical line. The development of the 1-4x Short Dot is a great example of this, where a JSOC unit (we're talking tip of the spear in war time) asked them to come up with a variable low-power FFP scope with integrated RDS. The result was their CQT abomination and it was presented "as is" with "no need for changes or improvements." No wonder S&B got the contract. During this time there was also a push for FFP mil/mil scopes, to which they pretty much balked, instead telling military end users that all we needed is a Mark 4 LRT or MRT with standard mildot and limited elevation.

Thankfully, in the past couple of years, as other scope manufacturers started to leave them in the dust, they started putting out world class scopes built to the modern needs of warfighters (and LEO via the trickle down effect). The Mark 6 and Mark 8 line are seriously impressive scopes that compete with the best of them out there.

It is encouraging to see decent products being made here. The Redfield Revolution riflescopes, for example (owned by Leupold) and the DNZ ring/mount combination made in North Carolina (go, Tar Heels).
