Assistance with picking a red dot magnifier

Hello everyone. Any input you have is greatly appreciated.

The magnifier will be used behind an Aimpoint PRO. Most ranges in the area are at most only 200 yards, but occasionally have access to a 500 yard range. I'm not concerned with SHTF scenerios and my AR is not for HD, just paper and steel targets.

Currently, I've narrowed down my options to either the Primary Arms 3x Long Eye Relief Magnifier with ADM mount and the LUCID 2x-5x Variable Magnifier & ADM Swing-Off Mount - Gen II? I've been leaning towards the Primary Arms mostly because of the reputation and the price, but I hear good things about Lucid too. Is it worth the extra hundred for the better warranty and the zoom?

Below are some of the specs of both magnifiers.

Primary Arms 3X Long Eye Relief Red Dot Magnifier
    • Magnification: 3X
    • Eye Relief: 2.8"
    • ~$200
    • FOV: 34 feet @ 100 yards
    • One Year Warranty

LUCID 2x-5x Variable Magnifier & ADM Swing-Off Mount - Gen II
    • Magnification: 2x - 5x
    • Eye Relief: 4" - 2.5"
    • $311
    • FOV: (2x, 40ft @ 100yds) - (5x, 25.5ft @ 100yds)
    • Limited Lifetime Warranty

    Thanks again.

I have both and prefer the PA 3x, although shooting out to 500y is difficult since the AP dot has no BDC and looks like a mess to my eyes.

I would go with the Vortex VMX3 w/ Swing Mount. The magnifier will rest just a few mm lower than the PRO. The sight picture is very clean and the Vortex magnifier has some of the cleanest glass in this price range.

Here are a few pictures of my setup:

You can try the lower 1/3 co-witness mount from ADM, but you might have the same offset on the high end.

Hard to argue with having ammo to sweaten the deal. When are your magnifiers back in stock?

            Chase,

Its my understanding that the Vortex comes with the absolute cowitness ADM mount. Really looking for 1/3 cowitness. I could get the magnifier by itself and then get a mount, but generally, buying the parts individually costs more. I do have to validate that statement concerning cost though since I'm working off generalizations.

3xLER magnifiers will be here in a few days. Flips are Oct. We have ordered some Sitemark flips that will arrive next week. I don't have pricing on them yet.

will the adm mounts also be in stock at that time? are there any alignment issues with your magnifiers with the adm mount and an aimpoint pro like the vortex picture above?

                thanks

We have both ADM mounts in stock. You want to go with the taller one so it will clear a rear flip. The slight difference in height either high or low (as pictured above) will have no effect on getting a clear sight picture and centering the dot.

The tall one will be closer to the same height. I will try and get a picture up. We will have a bundle price with the 3X LER and ADM. Thye are in the US just waiting to clear customs.

                  Thanks

I was happily surprised when checking Primary Arms to see that the 3xler magnifier with adm mount was in stock. The email notification doesn't seem to work though. Placed an order. Going to pocket the difference and either get ammo or buy the wife some flowers to smooth over the magnifier purchase.

what is your purpose for this gun... range toy?

If its a range toy, do whatever you want to it.

If its for any other purpose, personally I'd scrap the whole idea, that setup is heavy and bulky and in the end, an ACOG does it all in a more robust setup that ends up being several ounces lighter. I did that awhile back and would never go back to the red dot-magnifier setup.

A red dot; even with a 3x magnifier, is really not suitable for accurate shooting past 200/300 yards. This setup is for close range combat.

A magnifier behind a red dot is designed to extend the effective range of a red dot past 200-300 yards on a silhouette sized target and aid in target identification. Not suitable for small targets or every purpose for sure. Not always the best option for every shooter but can be very effective. Our magnifiers are a good way to experiment with one behind your PRO without breaking the bank.

                              Marshall,

Is the current stock of the ler3x magnifiers the gen2's that are rated for higher calibers?

                              Thanks
