    Scope Choice

Looking to mount a new scope on a Weatherby Vanguard Deluxe in .270. I've primarily hunted with Leupolds (VX-I and VX-II) and Nikon (Prostaff and Buckmaster). I've found all to be decent scopes for the price and adequate for the types of hunting I partake in.

This is a very nice rifle and I thought I'd possibly jump up in scope quality. I'm considering a Leupold VX-3, Vortex/Diamondack or Viper, Nikon Monarch and possibly the Zeiss Conquest but open to other suggestions. The rifle will be primarily deer/pig and elk hunting. I'm trying to keep the scope, rings and base purchase under $500.

I know my scopes fairly well (I've owned in excess of 30 on hunting rifles in my life), but it's always good to get feedback from "real in the field users", not online reviews. I'm looking at 3x9x40 but could jump up to x12's.

Your shared thoughts and opinions are appreciated. Oh yes, if it helps, I've never shot or shot at an elk or deer in excess of 250. Could have, but never needed too.

    Thank you,

Leupold 3.5X10X40 and you are set for life. I have one on a 25-06 and like it. I have a 3X9X40 on a Weatherby Vanguard in 257Weatherby and would like to have the 3.5X10X40 on it but I had 3 of the 3X9X40 Leupold scopes so I used one of them. It works just fine and I shot a pronghorn at over 500 yard last hunt with it. Also 2 others at 40 and 135 yards.

Buy the Leupold and you will glad you did.

If you want to move up get a Nightforce. They are like a Leupold on steroids. I have 1 each on my 50bmg rifles and they are fantastic.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.
