Looking to mount a new scope on a Weatherby Vanguard Deluxe in .270. I've primarily hunted with Leupolds (VX-I and VX-II) and Nikon (Prostaff and Buckmaster). I've found all to be decent scopes for the price and adequate for the types of hunting I partake in.
This is a very nice rifle and I thought I'd possibly jump up in scope quality. I'm considering a Leupold VX-3, Vortex/Diamondack or Viper, Nikon Monarch and possibly the Zeiss Conquest but open to other suggestions. The rifle will be primarily deer/pig and elk hunting. I'm trying to keep the scope, rings and base purchase under $500.
I know my scopes fairly well (I've owned in excess of 30 on hunting rifles in my life), but it's always good to get feedback from "real in the field users", not online reviews. I'm looking at 3x9x40 but could jump up to x12's.
Your shared thoughts and opinions are appreciated. Oh yes, if it helps, I've never shot or shot at an elk or deer in excess of 250. Could have, but never needed too.
Thank you,
