Anyone got one? I am looking to buy one and I will buy it on-line with out seeing it. So any experienced people feel free to chime in. I will be using it for hunting, and at the range of course, but mainly hunting.

Redfield Rampage Spotting scope

70 views no replies? I may buy this today if I can find it in Ridgecrest, and I will then review it for you all. -
Not a rampage but I recently did purchase a Bushnell that exceeded my expectations, and it's a bit less money wise.

Ive used the Redfield, its worth the extra cost when you compare it to a Barska spotting scope, but its still really entry level. Its hard to use at higher magnification with glasses or saftey glasses on. Its resolving powers are ok.
I use the Alpen with an 80mm objective.

I like it very much. Before the Alpen I used a Barska and the difference is huge. Not just in image quality and resolving powers but in just comfort when using it. I really hated using my cheap-o spotting scope over time, it caused a lot of eye strain and the image just got “hazed or foggy” at higher magnification and just mashed/blurred the .223 holes on target.
Alpen got me:
Bigger field of view – easier to spot shots that miss
Brighter Image due to objective size
Good sized eye piece and eye relief. Don’t have to take of glasses at 60x to use it.
Good clarity for 80mm scopes in that price class.
Focus and zoom controls are smooth
I don’t come across Alpen much on firearm forums, but I came across the brand on some bird watching forums and digiscoping forums, and those guys seem to be pretty serious about their spotting scopes and image quality. The model I linked was highly recommended.
Another option in that price class and quality range is the Vortex Nomad, but they stop at a 60mm objective. The Viper series gets you into the 65 and 80mm objectives. I still consider the Alpen budget for an 80mm objective spotting scope but the quality is there.; I would love to get a Viper or Razor one of these days.ExtremeXComment

Well I went to the gun store, and they were closed. I went to Big 5 and checked out the cheap scopes -- and no-way! The eyepiece is so small. They had a pair of Leupold 8x50s, and so I bought them. I still plan on buying a spotting scope, but that will be next month now.
I'll check that out and look for alpen too. Thanks.a Bushnell that exceeded my expectations, and it's a bit less money wise.Comment

For the price right now, if you buy any Vortex scope, as cheap or as expensive model you want, you can pick up a Vortex Nomad angled eyepiece spotting scope. I got the 20-60x60 angled, and it is a LOT clearer than my older Redfield scope was. Its quite a bit lighter too if that makes a difference. It doesn't "feel cheap" if you know what I mean there. I really enjoyed unboxing and playing with it a bit over the last couple days. Leaves I couldn't have made out with the Redfield I can spot easily with the Vortex. I can't wait to see 200 yard .22lr holes and how it performs there. I'll keep ya posted when I do get one going.Comment
