Is there an adjustable scope mount?

I saw a scope mount system where there is a base mount that is attached to the gun. There is a separate mount that you put on different scopes, red dots, and the like.

The idea behind the system is to quickly be able take on and off different types of scopes for your gun and retain the zero each time.

Sooo... that got me thinking. Is there an adjustable mount that you could attach to different rifles, and instead of zeroing the scope, you would zero by adjusting the mount. You would need a mount for each rifle.

Why!?!.....so that you could take your one very expensive scope, and using a quick locking type of system, move that same scope to different rifles. You would not have to re-zero the scope to each gun after you initially zero with the adjustable mount.

Does such a system exist?, or do you think no real utility for that kind of thing, or brilliant idea.

There used to be. A lot of old scopes made prior to and in the early 20th century didn't have any internal adjustments and the mounts were adjustable. They also had large springs that allowed the scope to move under recoil and you had to reset them for evey shot. They were not as accurate as fixed mounts.

It would seem that an adjustable mount could be constructed such that after it was zeroed it could be locked. Maybe with small cam locks.

I belive a system could be engineered to work. I guess the real question is would there be enough call for it? And could it be done simply enough to make it cost effective.

If I had a $2500 dollar scope that I could quickly lock onto various guns, and didn't have to re-zero, it would be cool.

im an amature at thisand may be wrong, but if your mounts will retain zero when you remove and replace your scope then its a simple matter of keeping a log book of click adustments.

rifle-A zero is 6up and 4 left different from rifle-B and so on.

Yes, if you had tactical turrets on the scope you could do that pretty easily. Only problem would be the turrets not being at zero when you wanted to make additional range and windage adjustments.
The idea is to have a no fuss system for changing a scope between rifles.

I not sure if this is a problem looking for a solution....or a solution where there is no problem.

So, the Picatinny rail concept could do this, if everyone made their gear to spec, but they don't, so it won't do.

What you could do is have an adjustable adapter that fit on a Picatinny rail and could be tweaked to align with the bore axis in both directions. Once you had mounts aligned with the bores on all your guns, a good quality pair of QR mounts or QR one-piece on a scope would give a repeatable zero.
