Scope base bedding question

Got an EGW 20moa base for my 700. When I checked for fit I could see light thru the rear when putting in the front screws. No light up front when using back screws. So I decided to bed. It's still curing for a couple more hours.

Question is, when it's done do I have to check the front for gaps again by putting in only the rear screws? I assume not, because during the curing period the front screws are in so the front of the base was in place.

If you're going to the trouble of bedding the base, which is a good idea in your case, you should bed both ends at once. Just because you can't see light doesn't mean the base fits properly. You should check the gap with a 0.0015" feeler gauge. If it fits anywhere under the base, you should bed it.

When the rear end cures, you can bed both ends with a thin smear of compound. Be sure to thoroughly clean off all the release agent and scuff up the bottom of the rear base with 220 grit sandaper to get the new bedding compound to stick to the cured compound.

If you've checked and rechecked for gaps you probably won't need to bed the front. Check out the 8541 Tactical video on Youtube for budget mounting. Name is John and hes a member on a lot of the boards and they did a nice video on it.
