Scope package for my Saiga 223

After reading the Saiga forums a bit I was going to order these parts:

    Lepers 3-9x40 Accushot $40

    Weaver Alu rings

AK47 Slide Rail mount with quick detach

Supposedly the slide rail mount doesn't lose it's zero quite as easily as other mounts? These parts will all work correctly and they're all that I need right?

As for the scope, for $40 it seems to be pretty decent. I'm not going to be going to Sniper School with my Saiga 223 or anything so I don't need anything too special. Is there something of better value than the Leaper for $40-$90?

Save up a little more and buy a pk, kobra, or psop.

      Specifically which model?

I don't mind spending a bit on a scope but I'm not sure it makes sense to get a nice scope for a Saiga 223...

Never underestimate any rifle. A good scope will most likely help you shoot better. With glass, you pretty much always get what you pay for. That being said, everything I have heard about leapers scopes make them sound like complete crap.

Depends. I've read kobras are quick and good for hunting.

The kobra is not good in snow. the pk works good in snow.

This is what I want for my 223.
these are from akforum-so you can look it up over there. bmp rail is modified so the rail is centered and not off center.

how it looks on a sam7a1r.

The cheapest I would buy is a kobra or a romanian psop you might find a good price on old stock. I say buy russian optics for your russian rifle. If you plan on getting something better, buy the bmp mount and upgrade the red dot or scope later.
you might want to look over at akforum, sometimes I've seen some fair prices on used optics there.

If you're thinking about possibly varmint hunting with your Saiga I've had good results with the el cheapo Barska 6.5-20x50mm at just about $40 from sportsmansguide. It took me out to 385 yards at last year's Boomershoot on a 4" target with a bolt-action .223 handgun, and does decent work on my Kel-Tec SU-16CA. No issues with it losing zero or anything yet.

As the earlier poster said, don't sell your rifle short. There were some folks a couple spots over from me at Boomershoot with a Saiga-type rifle (a .308 Vepr, I think), and they seemed to be doing okay (Boomershoot targets start at 385 yards and go out to 700):

I have that low profile mount in the pic that says made in belarus. It is rock solid and it keeps the optic nice and low. I have a millet 3moa red dot mounted on it and the set up works well. Mark

I have two of the low profile mounts made in Belarus. Very nicely done, the scope is centered and rock solid mount. I mounted an accushot Swat (side wheel adjustable turret)mini 3-12x44 mildot on my .308 Saiga and it shoots great. On my .223 I mounted a millet DMS-1 and I can keep them all on a paper plate at 200 with Wolf 62 gr ammo.
I know the accushot is supposed to be a terrible scope but it has worked well for me. They run about $130.00 online and I picked mine up on Ebay for $70.00.

Thanks, that Barska looks like exactly what I was looking for, will order that instead!

                    I like this mount.
