Manfrotto Tripod $50 @ Costco

I'm not a tripod expert, but I know Manfrotto is a good brand... I'm not sure how well this would be for a spotting scope, but its a good price

Manfrotto makes fantastic tripods. If I were going to buy a $50 tripod, Manfrotto would be the one.

This is approximately the modern equivalent of the one I have. I have an upgraded head with a quick release mount on it. The photography crossover factor is nice...

Good deal, they make excellent tripods.

I bought a nice Manfrotto tripod and a ball head from my photography days... cost me about $300 for the setup with the head.

Good thing I kept it too because I use it with my spotting scope and its one hell of a tripod.

If you shoot prone a lot, look at some of their higher end models. You can get the legs to do some fancy stuff.

it came today in the brown truck. opened it and set the unit up for my spotter.
the result: buy one, well worth the money for a solid, name brand unit.

How's the case/bag? Is it rugged enough to throw in truck and toss around at the range (not literally, but you know - not rip if it lands on bench edge or casing in the dirt)...

the bag is sturdy, it reminds me of a misshapen tennis racquet bag.

how heavy is a typical spotting scope, sounds like it might be pushing the limit for the head staying on target.

I have a manfrotto head and monopod for my camera - the head is rated to 17#s but my gear is nowhere near that heavy, works great though.

my bushnell excursion (non reticle) weighs less than 5#. as a side note, the tripod itself weighs more than my large slik tripod because of its heavier guage square vs tubular aluminum construction.

I don't like photo/video tripods for spotting scopes. The foot print is too large. I prefer spotting scope stands.
