Vortex Defender-ST failure resolved/Awesome Customer Service Update

Was doing shotgun drills with my Beretta 1301 Tac Mod 2 on Tuesday. I had a Vortex Defender-ST mounted on a Strike Industries plate - all screws pink Loctited and witness marked. I was mostly practicing "short stocking" (shotgun up on my right shoulder - like when doing a violin reload), firing 2 at a 3 yard target, back stepping and firing another round at 5 a yard target - and other variations. About 40 rounds in, I noticed a shot go way off - like 6 inches at 5 yards. I stopped to see what was up and noticed the dot had shifted to the left third of the window - dozens of clicks over! Plate and optic were still snug, witness marks unmoved.

I readjusted to dot back to approx zero and fired a slug at 8" target at 40'ish yards - a hit. Hmmm.....stopped for that day, came home and sent the it back to Vortex for review/resolution.

The Vortex Defender-ST is only a few months old, with maybe 400 rounds through it, and never abused or dropped. I'm concerned that whatever, if anything, Vortex decides to do, my faith and confidence may be irreparably shaken.

I search the web looking for any other such occurrences and found only one where the adhesive holding the window on a Vortex Venom had come loose. Any of you had a RDS fail in normal use (i.e., from shooting/recoil)?

Interesting. I was just looking at buying one to put on my Benelli M4 but hadn't done enough research to be completely sure it's what I wanted yet. I've had every Bushnell TRS25 I've ever used on anything over a 22 fail on me if that helps.

Not uncommon to hear a vortex red dot fail. I’ve have a few different variations. My original vortex venom failed. I forget the exact issue but they sent me a new one. My uh1 had a battery drain issue. They replaced it for a new one too. I was hoping the product has improved overtime, maybe not. I still buy Vortex knowing they might fail but I know they will repair/replace if needed. I wouldn’t recommend putting them on any self defense pews. I stick with Trijicon, eotech. Or even holosun for that. Haven’t had any issues with those.

Received a package from Vortex via UPS yesterday (so, door to door was 15 days); inside was a new-in-box updated version of the Defender-ST. The service note reads in pertinent part: "Verified illumination emitter shifted. Replacing unit with current model."

What fantastic customer service - confirming and articulating the issue I experienced in writing, and efficiently replacing with a complete new package! This is how customer confidence and loyalty are earned and deserved; other companies take note (S&W I'm looking at you).
