Poor Man's Eotech?

I'm looking for a secondary sight for my AR15. It will be mounted on the side position of a quad rail using a 45 degree picatinny rail adapter. There will be a scope mounted on top of the rifle. My primary interest is in target shooting and plinking, and the secondary sight will be for close range, so I'm looking for an unmagnified holographic sight. I went to the Crossroads gun show this morning and took a look at some Eotech clones (the real thing is currently way out of my price range). The thing that I noticed was that the ones with reticles that were bright enough to be seen outdoors (and there weren't many) had so much reflection and glare that they were almost useless. Any suggestions? I'd really like to hear your thoughts.

How does the Pa Micro Dot perform in bright sunlight? What is the remo

It works great on a bright day... I have had one for over a year and never had any issues with it. Its held zero and been reliable. The Primary Arms microdot is probably one of the better budget red dot units on the market.

The kill flash is a honeycomb type grid that just sits on lens that faces the muzzle. The point of it is to reduce the chance of lens flash, like when the sun hits the glass and reflects giving away your position. I personally don't like it, I have no need for it, but some people do

You should be looking at the model with the removable base, in case you need to add a riser. I'm not sure if you need it or not, you should call Primary Arms and tell them how you intend on using it, they would guide you in the right direction.

I've owned the PA Micro for at least 2 years. I've been very pleased with it, I probably shot over 2k with it on my AR and it held zero just fine. It still uses the same battery it came with. I purchased the kill flash with it but I usually take it off.
I highly recommend any Primary Arms products, great customer service with great prices.

Its a bit over budget, but I have heard nothing but good things from that company and about their warranty too. The OP is looking for a secondary optic. The Strikefire is too big for that, the Vortex SPARC would fit his application.

Ive spent a lot of time playing around with the SPARC... I am also a bit of a Vortex fanboy, I like almost everything they make, but its really not that much better than the Primary Arms unit. If the warranty and the push button interface is a selling point then the Vortex SPARC is a good option. Dollar for Dollar the Primary Arms unit is a much better value.

Edit: I should also note the Vortex does come with some additional goodies in the box that Primary Arms does not include. It may or may not hold any value depending on what you are going to need/want.

I agree with everything written above about the PA Micro and SPARC.

However, if you still want an alternative to that, the other popular option is to use a mini reflex sight. PA has the Micro Tactical Green Dot Reflex Sight, but its out of stock. If you decide to pay more you can get the either a Burris Fast Fire for around $200 or a Doctor RDS on sale for about $250. Keep in mind you'll still need to buy a mount for these.
