    Looking for 100yd optic reccomendations

Just completed my ar build and took her out to the range, currently running a Vortex sparc RDS which I intent to keep for 50 yard and CQB style shooting. Now I am in the market for a scope which will be used for 80% 100yd shooting and 20% 200yd shooting. I will be shooting on paper and looking for maximum precision (ie skill limited vs scope limited) So in a perfect world would love to be able to drive bullseye tacks at 100yds when my skills improve. Based on my cursory research I am leaning towards a 3x-9x scope but am open to go as much as 12x or fixed glass. Budget is up to $400 and I am open to going used to make that happen..

    thought are greatly appreciated

I was able to get these 2 groupings in 6 straight shots but given the rds covered the entire target at 100yds I would prescribe this to luck vs skill

is 9x sufficient to see bulletholes at 100yds and for pinpoint accuracy or do I need to go 12x?

I don't remember 9x or 12x being sufficient to see bullet holes at 100 yards.

Btw, I think you learn more about your skill deficiencies by seeing how imprecise you are with irons or reflex sights. Powered scopes can be a crutch that hinders skill development instead of helping them.

I agree with IPSICK on this one. Develop your skills first. This is best done with irons/red dots. Practice the fundamentals; controlled breathing, trigger squeeze, sight picture... When you master these you set yourself up for success with any sight.
To answer your original question: take a look at the Nikon M-223:

This will provide you will plenty of magnification for the distances we are talking about. And the BDC reticle is pretty sweet as well!

I agree with the Ipsick and Optics on this. You should work on honing your skills before you go out and get a high powered scope. You should be able to put up tighter overall groups (without all the fliers you had on those targets) with irons or a 1x red dot. Personally I like to try and master the rifle with irons and then move up. With a scope, I prefer the 3x9 because you can start with 3 and move you way up...at 9 power there will be a lot of movement if you haven't learned to control yourself. That said, I assume you put up those groups without the use of a bench rest...which again is the best way to hone your skils. The rest will only handicap you that much more. I only use them to sight-in and check accuracy, etc.
